| [Line Problem] 2wire 1070b
Hi. I am having trouble with my 2wire 1070b modem. I just upgraded to a new computer and mow the 2wire keeps dropping the broadband signal. The broadband light blinks orange (looking for signal), then goes green for a random amount of time then seems to loos the signal again. Any ideas would be great.
Thanks

| 1) Which AT&T DSL Package do you have
Express (1.5Mbps down). I just upgraded to this from Basic. I did not have this problem before I upgraded.
2) Which modem brand and model do you have?
2wire 1070B
3) Are you using a router?
NO
4) Is your PPPoE login info (username & password) entered in the modem, in your router or do you use PPPoE software?
Don't know.
5) Describe the lights on the modem when the trouble occurs.
Broadband light blinks orange for about a minute, then goes back to green.
6) Confirm that youve checked to ensure that ALL devices plugged into the wall jacks serviced by your DSL phone number (except the DSL modem) have filters fitted.
Checked and rechecked
7) Confirm that youve powered off the modem and started it again and whether or not that made any changes with your problem.
Several times, without changes.
8) Do you hear any type of noise on the DSL phone line or any other unusual telephone symptoms?
No, but I do not use the phone much.
9) Provide line stats as follows
b) From a 2wire modem/router -- Go to this address with your browser -- homeportal/xslt?PAGE=J03&THISPAGPAGE=J03 and copy/paste the content into your post

Express (1.5Mbps down). I just upgraded to this from Basic. I did not have this problem before I upgraded. Ahh, ok, new computer and a circuit upgrade! That makes coincidence a little less likely.
One thing I didn't see on your report was this:
Current Noise Margin:
This FAQ shows where to find the Broadband Link Statistics. Copy/paste that info over here as well. »2 Wire »How can I tell if I have a marginal DSL line?
Edited because it's helpful to include the link when one points someone to a FAQ. |

here is the current noise. It has been working fine so far this morning, about half hour with out drops.
Thanks

| Ok, you have a really low noise margin at 7dB. Once you get down that low you're on the ragged edge of maintaining your connection and it doesn't take much interference to knock you offline.
The first thing to try is to see if you can grab the same stats from the NID's test jack (if you have one). This eliminates your home's internal wiring and if the problem still exists at the NID, then it's usually AT&T's problem to fix and not something you'd have to pay for. Here's how to see if you have a NID and how to test... »AT&T Southeast Forum FAQ »How to check modem stats, synch rates & speeds from test jack at the NID.
One other thing....you say you just switched to Express, the 1.5mbps down profile. Yet your modem is syncing at 6mbps down, the Elite profile! Did you really upgrade from Basic to Elite or did AT&T make a mistake? If you're supposed to be on Express, your problems might go away because the noise margin often gets better with the slower profiles, giving you some breathing room. |

@pacbell.net | I did sign up for Elite. Guess I got the numbers screwed up.
I do not have a laptop but I will try and plug into the NID.
