tddontje : Ahh, so I must have had water ingress a while ago because for some time whenever it rained my DSL would become unstable and go offline. Before that I had an incident which periodically during heavy usage time my DSL modem would get a red light and go offline. Whenever I made a call things would correct itself. It took me a month before I actually got a customer rep named Jesus (no kidding) who listened and got a repair guy to come out and fix the line. Prior to that I spent hours on end on hold and resetting/reinstalling my network.

That was a year and a half ago, now I am pretty happy with my service. No calls to customer service goes a long way.

amenite : My guess is that techs there do not have to deal with water ingress very much. Not suprised that desert snow exposed your lines to some water, that it exposed some problems with the lines, and also not surprised a level 1 rep blamed your modem.

If it's any consolation, I had a similar issue with my reuglar phone service due to a leaky junction box down the block and it took a few years to get the offending hardware replaced. Not making excuses for Verizon, but it seems like an issue that would not often be evident in your environment. Hope they get you all fixed up :)
--
Time is an abstract concept invented by carbon based life forms to monitor their constant decay.-Thunderclese
