[General] Home alarm system usung VOIP question

I have a security alarm system in my home and have connected it to call out using my VOIP. It appears to be working but sometimes it takes 2-3 tries before reaching the central station. I have heard and this is my question is that I could put a DSL filter somewhere in line and it would improve this. Is this so? and if so were would I put it in line? Using 4by2 reporting format to communicate which is slower and suppose to be better than ademco format when using VOIP.

sometimes a dsl filter works. Installing is simple. The dsl filter; which you can buy at radio shack, office depot, etc... has a short phone cord on one end and a small phone jack on the other end. Simply plug the filter into the alarm where the line normally plugged into. Then plug the line into the filter. Total installation time: Approximately 14 seconds.

Be advised however that this doesn't always work. Same with directv/dishnetwork receivers. Some voip providers have dedicated fax lines that are better at handling these devices. Also; there are a number of alarm companies that now have additional equipment available for using the equipment on voip. It also works great on faxes. It basically buffers the entire transmission, compresses it, and sends it all together. Also, if the modem in the alarm system is adjustable; adjust it to dial out at 9600 baud instead of 33.6kb or 56kb. good luck. later... mike....
