| DLink DKT-710 Tiscali Internet Disconnecting
Hi;
I am having some problems with a friends Dlink DKT-710 and Tiscali Broadband, he was using a Speedcom USB modem and has just purchased a Dlink DK-710 ~Wireless Router.
I set the router up using the provided CD which gave Tiscali as an ISP and successfully setup the WPA secured wireless network with two PC's and had both connected to the internet.
Shortly afterwards the internet connection was lost.
The DSL light was still solid but when I logged onto the router the status was "Disconnected". I rebooted the router and regained the internet connection but just tried it again this morning and the internet was again NOT available.
Anyone any idea why this router will not maintain a DSL connection, the DSL light stays on so it does not appear to be a line problem its just that the router will not stay connected??
PLEASE HELP |

| Log into the router by typing its IP address into the address line of a web browser (firefox & the like) on one of the connected PC's (probably 192.168.1.1) dig around in the routers configuration pages - there may be a setting that tells the router to disconnect after x-period of time - set it to never or whatever. some of the other settings may give options to 'redial' and need to be set as high as possible.
Only guess mind! - let us know how it went  |

| Thanks for the reply, not getting a lot of help with this problem, I'll be popping around to my friends house tommorow and have a nosey around in the routers menus to see if there is a connection setting to determine the length of time the internet connection is maintained. |

| I have a D-Link 300T
in the menu 'Setup', section 'Connection', I have two features. One called "Keep Alive:" that I have set to 99999 mins
and the other, is a check box labeled "On Demand:" which I have un-ticked or blank if you like.
I don't think D-Link vary their software interfaces that much between models... |

@btcentralplus.com | I was back at my friends house the other day and could find no setting limiting the amount of internet time, the only setting with a limit was the DHCP IP Lease time which was set to 24 hours, presumably it resets everytime a PC logs onto the LAN. |

| MMmmmmm I have to say I'm a bit stumped. I don't think the WiFi is an issue or the DHCP lease time.
On My D-Link, I do have something similar happen but it is a random occurrence - namely that despite it saying everything is connected on lights and interface, in reality it isn't. a good old re-boot usually fixes and I have tried a replacement model with the same s/ware both act the same.
Speaking of which, have you checked the firmware or software version is current on your router there?
dig about in the support section of the D-0Link web site and compare the version installed on the router to that which is current - you may need to flash it up to a more current version... |
