Several Problems w/ WBMR-G54

Do excuse me as I am a bit of a noob when it comes to internet related hardware.

I recently got my WBRM-G54 router to replace my BT-Homehub which I wasn't happy with (regular cut-outs to do with lack of compatibility with my steam games).

I set up the G54 router, plugged in the power, ADSL, and plugged an ethernet cable from the router in to my pc (I decided to try installing via ethernet first as the manual recommended it). In the corner it said "A LAN connection is unplugged" or something along those lines. I put in the driver disk that came with the box and I found there were no drivers for an ethernet connection. There was also little help in the manual. I also found the manual in the box seem different to the much more detailed online manual.

So I thought I would give it another go, but this time, I would use my WLI-U2-KG54L dongles to gain a connection. I ran through the driver disk (I noticed it was identical to the other software I just used) and I followed the on-screen instructions. It all seemed fine until right at the end it had said "The drivers could not install properly, please reinstall". Now I have tried several times to reinstall with no luck. I have tried with the ethernet again too, no luck.

Please help me, am I doing it all wrong? I just wanted to play Counter Strike for Christmas. Any comments would be appreciated, thanks guys.
