Re: So What?

Blu Ray will never catch on. It will DVDs or something else. Technology changes too fast.

Sadly most people with PS3s never use the bluray player, they just play their xbox or wii instead.

I rarely take the time to respond to nonsense but I can't help it.

A very large portion of the PS# audience is in fact using their PS3 as a blue-ray player. Do you have any facts to back up ANY of the nonsense you've posted in this thread? Did you actually survey the 1000 people in your dorm to come up with anything amount of scientific facts to back up your previous statement? You have filled my quota of internet stupid for the day so thanks! Whew! Glad to have that part of the day over!

The same thing was said about DVDs because you couldn't record on them like VHS tapes.

"It will DVDs or something else."

Huh? That is just some jumbled words.

"Sadly most people with PS3s never use the bluray player, they just play their xbox or wii instead."

Oh really. Care to backup your argument?

OMG this is useless.

To r81984:

Sadly, you wouldn't know if most people with PS3s use or never use their blu-ray players, because you've stated that you don't have one to speak of.

Although, it is true, something, at some time, will overtake blu-ray, but it will probably be at least 5 years before netflix over your internet connection is actually feasible (think about all of the people in the MidWest that have a 768K connection for $58/Month).

What I'm waiting for is 3G that is faster than my home internet connection (6 Mb/1 Mb).

That's the second unsupported blanket statement you've made (or at least what you've extrapolated from your dorm). Where are your sources or statistics to back your claims up on a wide-scale basis, not just your little dorm microcosm? There are people who use game systems who *gasp* aren't in college. . .

I have a PS3 and I own about 15 Blu-ray movies. It is my only downstairs DVD player so it gets used all the time for DVD AND Blu Ray. Blu Ray may be supplanted by downloadable video eventually but the PS3 will still have use as a game system and a home media server even if Blu Ray withers and dies.

Unless you've got some hard numbers, you should cut the "most people" and "x will never" crap. You have no idea what "most people" think of or do with their PS3s.

I love how people say how they use their PS3 for movies.
I guess no one ever uses it to play a game.
I hope you like your overpriced dvd player.

Show me another BluRay player that has been firmware upgradable from BluRay Profile 1.0 to full Profile 2.0 support, that also has streaming media capabilities to play full HD content from a uPNP media server.

The PS3 is far more than just a DVD player.

What's wrong with using it for movies? That doesn't preclude playing games on it which I do as well, COD4, Devil May Cry, and even some downloaded games from the Playstation store. It also plays my original PS and PS2 games.

You apparently like to assume that because someone uses it for one thing they don't use it for anything else so it proves some point you're apparently trying to make.

Enjoy stacking your shelves with your Wii, a separate DVD and Blu Ray player and an HTPC.
