[Speed Problem] My ATT Elite package speed dropped.

Hi I would like to ask why my att elite speed keeps dropping and goes out of sync. I used to get the full 6mb down and 700 upstream speed. For the past week my dsl line been dropping and when I reconnect the speed is always different.

Your modem is training down in speed when the sync speed drops below 6008. The line conditions have deteriorated and the modem is dropping to a slower speed in an effort to maintain your modem sync. If the line conditions deteriorate even more and the modem can't shed speed fast enough or simply drop enough speed to keep up, then it will drop sync.

So the problem is my phone line? Sorry I am new to this. Should I call att to send a tech guy to come by to check out the lines?

It could be either the phone line, or a sudden problem with your inside wiring (connections getting wet or a bad filter), or it might be a problem with the modem.

Actually your DSL stats look very good, almost too good to suggest that your line is bad.

Before you call ATT, you should check your line stats again at your NID if you have a NID: »AT&T Southeast Forum FAQ »How to check modem stats, synch rates & speeds from test jack at the NID. . The reason I'm suggesting this is that you seem to have an upload speed problem. One way to have both upload and download speed problems is to have a bad microfilter, or an improperly installed microfilter, e.g. the DSL plugged into the wrong side of a two outlet port filter, or a filter plugged in a reversed direction. If you can't check at your NID, then check all your filters.
