Thanks to milambian and impala

anon : Thanks to milambian and impala.

After reading your Vista vs. Westell 7500 DSL Router post, I went to 802.11G only and got connected. I like running into smart people. Thanks again.

eph321

milambian

join:2008-10-17
Corning, NY

reply to milambian
Well, I'm not sure why it worked, but I finally fixed the problem. After turning encryption on and off, creating new SSIDs each time like impala suggested with no change in my situation, I tried one last thing as a last attempt. Talking to my coworker who handles the network there, he said his wireless system was set to only receive 802.11 G signals, not mixed, as my router was configured.

As soon as I switched my router to only accept 802.11G signals, created a new SSID, and power cycled everything one last time, my laptop was able to connect flawlessly! I don't know if this was a problem with my router, Vista, or my laptop's network adapter, but I now have a completely stable wireless connection, and it's working great! Thanks for the replies!
to forum · permalink · · 2008-10-21 09:21:49 ·

impala

join:2008-03-08
Clemson, SC Thanks for letting us know what you did to fix it.
I am interested to know what wireless nic your vista notebook has in it to cause all this trouble.
