What's bottom-line for Actiontec wireless capabilities ?

Wireless speeds on our FIOS 5/2 home network setup will suddenly fluctuate between 300kbps and 4800 w/o any obvious reason. The fluctuation is apparently (per Verizon) not connected to signal arriving at MI424WR Rev D, or how many LAN connections, and not an issue of actual downloads in progress, or spyware, or drivers (all current). Doesn't appear to be related to other wireless signals from neighbors. The problem is always the worst with the download speed; often the upload speed will be normal. Oh, and little option to change router as I need the Actiontec for my TV dvr/on demand.

Saw another post saying to change wireless channel from auto to a specific one -- will try... but what's the best guess out there about whether this is an Actiontec issue that can't be fixed?

(LAN = 1 laptop XP wired, 1 desktop XP, and up to 3 other laptops sometimes connected -- 2 Vista, 1 XP)

IMHO, the wireless portion of the Actiontec is broken. WPA2 code is broken, signal strength is broken. I tried mightily to work with it by using antenna boosters and other tricks and it didn't help in the end. I finally disabled the wireless portion of the Actiontec and added a new linksys 310n in access point mode and have been a happy camper running at rock solid wireless "N" and "G" speeds ever since. It really was the only solution in the end to turn off the Actiontec wireless.

Now, if we could only get a fix for the "Nat" issue I would be in heaven!
