Re: New netowork pics...

I was gonna ask why about the 66 block actually. I haven't seen or used those in ages. Hell I don't even know where my punch blade is for those things as I rarely used them.

What's the deal with people still using them? What advantages do they have? I thought they were basically obsolete.

I use them exclusively for phones. They are far from obsolete in the phone world. I can lay them out and terminate everything in no time. It's an ongoing debate on several other forums...

66 / 110 / BIX ... too many tools to keep track of. And if you get a tool that you just change the end on, I keep loosing the end!

We tend to use BIX on anything new, but there is still a lot of 66 left in the telephone world, and lots of 110 in the data world.

I pretty much use BIX for everything when I can (Never fails it's the most expensive for everything, panels, tools, etc)

But yeah I've lost my 66 blade and my 110 is collecting dust.

Awesome forum link!

Yeah sadly I live in BIX land up here. But I don't seem to have any problems with BIX so far, provided I have the right tools for the job and it's not ****ed up by the last installer.

I've been put in emergency situations where I've been punching BIX with a small flat head screwdriver and a small pair of wire cutters. Lemme tell ya I was not a happy camper.

But then again I've done 66 with a small pair of pliars and a screwdriver with a wirecutter on the same point too lol. (cringe)

I prefer 66 for its simplicity and ease of use, but I'm just so used to BIX now it's pretty much second nature. It's more a problem when boneheaded installers mess it up, then you're wasting time fixing their stuff.

For data patch panels it's 110 all the way of course. (Never seen a true rackmount BIX punchdown for data, only ones that fit into the dinky telecom racks)

One more picture of the main 66 blocks in the server room, the new part of the building has better wiring in both phone and data.
And that random wire sticking out if for the new fire alarm/alarm system i believe...

No there are some that are crooked. Not to mention not lined up properly, not spaced properly and not mushroomed properly...

But I'm a real anal bastard when it comes to that stuff. Sorry! Take me with a real grain of salt and don't be afraid to tell me to shut up. I'm just picky on installs.

Good pics though!

That looks like crap and I do mean crap.

To begin with, basic rule, cables in the bottom jumpers across the top and jumpers shall be run with slack pulled down not outwards

I'm sorry?
The telephone contractor installed all of the wiring and PBX.
It does not really matter to them or the administration as they have more important things to spend all of there money on.

I'd like to see a picture of how it should be done correctly. Is there anyway of getting some for examples?

The point that the other guys are trying to make is even though it really might not affect it operationally, it shows a clear lack in workmanship pride. Someone who really truly cares will take the time to dress out the blocks and the x-connects properly. If someone is cutting corners or has poor workmanship at the block, imagine what the rest of the plant looks like.
