| I say either a highschool computer room or a college computer lab. BTW, the CaT5 "waterfalls" on those hooks are a little too sharp if I'm right. I doubt it would cause you any problems, but I'm just being a grump
I'm also curious because you're showing a pile of networking stuff, then in the middle have what I would HOPE to be a phone system cross-connect block or a punch block for phones (I dearly hope you haven't punched those CaT5s onto it, or at least if you did they better not be for networking) -- Justin - DSLR resident grouch and Mr Negativity TSI Fanboy - "Dontchya wish your 'net was hot like mine! I wanna even go so far as saying Canon 50mm 1.8 lens, but the DOF actually looks deeper than that so it's probably a zoom.

1 edit | Oh shit LOL! I just looked at the EXIF for the last shot of the switch and indeed Canon 50mm running at 2.0 so my guess it's the 1.8 as the Rebel series doesn't like running at 1.8 (Wide open) too well.
LMAO I seriously picked that out of my head before reading the EXIF. But then again I shoot a lot with that lens.
EDIT - The Canon Rebel doesn't like running THAT lens at 1.8 (I don't think it's the camera specifically but more the lens that doesn't look very crisp at 1.8) -- Justin - DSLR resident grouch and Mr Negativity TSI Fanboy - "Dontchya wish your 'net was hot like mine! I picked one of them up before christmas. Seems pretty good on my 50D at f1.8.
They are quite zoomed in on their own, especially if you dont have a full frame sensor.

| Hehehe The nifty-fifty. Or as I like to say "I love that little piece of crap!"
It's an awesome lens, and yep pretty zoomed on a crop sensor, almost a little more than I'd like it to be. But I have a wide angle thing so that could be just me.
I usually don't shoot it lower than 2.0 just because at 1.8 it seems to soften up quite a bit. But at 2 it's perfect. -- Justin - DSLR resident grouch and Mr Negativity TSI Fanboy - "Dontchya wish your 'net was hot like mine! Ohhh Dontchya!" Have a nice day!

1 edit | Re: New netowork pics... said by neonhomer :said by ilikeme :Why are there two fire alarms right next to each other next to the door in that last picture of the lab? The red one is a fire alarm. The white one looks like it has a yellow strobe or cover. I commonly see those as CO2 level alarms... probably a CO2 sensor on the wall somewhere, probably next to the zone sensor for HVAC. Shouldn't there be a fire alarm pull station near the light switches at the exit door? All of our rooms (elementary school district) have a pull station at each exit door.
The Ortronics racks look nice and easy to deal with. All of our patches are in cabinets with the Panduit cable managers. There are a PITA to trace/pull a bad cable out of once they are packed. This usually leads to a big mess after someone has gotten into them a few times. -- We were taking a vote when the ground came up and hit us.

Yes, but I'm willing to bet that is an interior door not an exit, as such it shall be equipped with a horn and strobe but is not required to have a pull station.

| I was gonna ask why about the 66 block actually. I haven't seen or used those in ages. Hell I don't even know where my punch blade is for those things as I rarely used them.
What's the deal with people still using them? What advantages do they have? I thought they were basically obsolete.

| Re: New netowork pics... 66 / 110 / BIX ... too many tools to keep track of. And if you get a tool that you just change the end on, I keep loosing the end!
We tend to use BIX on anything new, but there is still a lot of 66 left in the telephone world, and lots of 110 in the data world.
|
kewlkeed Grouch Premium join:2005-02-05 Knowlton, QC | I pretty much use BIX for everything when I can (Never fails it's the most expensive for everything, panels, tools, etc)
But yeah I've lost my 66 blade and my 110 is collecting dust.

| Awesome forum link!
Yeah sadly I live in BIX land up here. But I don't seem to have any problems with BIX so far, provided I have the right tools for the job and it's not ****ed up by the last installer.
I've been put in emergency situations where I've been punching BIX with a small flat head screwdriver and a small pair of wire cutters. Lemme tell ya I was not a happy camper.
But then again I've done 66 with a small pair of pliars and a screwdriver with a wirecutter on the same point too lol. (cringe)
I prefer 66 for its simplicity and ease of use, but I'm just so used to BIX now it's pretty much second nature. It's more a problem when boneheaded installers mess it up, then you're wasting time fixing their stuff.
For data patch panels it's 110 all the way of course. (Never seen a true rackmount BIX punchdown for data, only ones that fit into the dinky telecom racks) -- Justin - DSLR resident grouch and Mr Negativity TSI Fanboy - "Dontchya wish your 'net was hot like mine! To begin with, basic rule, cables in the bottom jumpers across the top and jumpers shall be run with slack pulled down not outwards
