I'm sorry?
The telephone contractor installed all of the wiring and PBX.
It does not really matter to them or the administration as they have more important things to spend all of there money on.
The point that the other guys are trying to make is even though it really might not affect it operationally, it shows a clear lack in workmanship pride. Someone who really truly cares will take the time to dress out the blocks and the x-connects properly. If someone is cutting corners or has poor workmanship at the block, imagine what the rest of the plant looks like.
I'm not going to lie it's pretty bad but to the administration it works and because of that they think it's ok. The whole problem with the building is that's it's from the 60's and i don't think the telephone contractor knew how to do it properly. Anyway...

Why are there two fire alarms right next to each other next to the door in that last picture of the lab?
The red one is a fire alarm. The white one looks like it has a yellow strobe or cover. I commonly see those as CO2 level alarms... probably a CO2 sensor on the wall somewhere, probably next to the zone sensor for HVAC.

How do you like the procurve 2810's? I'm looking at possibly getting a few of those in 48 port densities.

As for the DL380, who doesn't have one?

The HP are great! They where cheaper and had a better warranty than the Ciscos.
They don't have anything fancy re: routing or VLANS setup..

I thought the 2810's have VLAN, but since it's not a layer 3 switch with routing, you would have to supply your own router between vlan's, ie) Ports 1~24 on VLAN0, 25~48 on VLAN1, and put a router between port 24 and 48.

I'm looking at possibly getting 2900's now, since they have routing built in, along with 10gBe stacking modules in the back.

But yeah, lifetime warranty, you can't beat that!

Shouldn't there be a fire alarm pull station near the light switches at the exit door? All of our rooms (elementary school district) have a pull station at each exit door.

The Ortronics racks look nice and easy to deal with. All of our patches are in cabinets with the Panduit cable managers. There are a PITA to trace/pull a bad cable out of once they are packed. This usually leads to a big mess after someone has gotten into them a few times.

Yes, but I'm willing to bet that is an interior door not an exit, as such it shall be equipped with a horn and strobe but is not required to have a pull station.
