Re: I was thinking about this

That's a bigger bread box than I would need.

Yeah, I won't be sitting on it sice the boxes will be headless? I have a 17 inch flat panel to put inside and a keyboard and mouse. I have a small rack now that holds everything it just doesn't match the rest of the office decor. I leave it for now, I forgot I have a 2U APC that will have no place in that setup.

Just to build on what Tidal said about the similarity to a 19" rack. If your console/keyboard uses a trackpoint or trackpad then the room allotted might be ok (since you would not have a mouse), however unless the tray that holds the keyboard extends out further, you are not going to have a lot of leg room (ok for standing, not for sitting).

It is an interesting concept that isn't particularly well executed.

This is similar to a 19 inch comm rack which we have hardware management consoles located inside and I'll say this.

It's a witch to use the keyboard and mouse. I usually have to put the mouse behind the keyboard to use both.

Stay away unless you like being uncomfortable.

Too small. Set up the machines to start with no keyboard, mouse and video and then remote into them. You need more space to work, and if you are going to use them as whs and vmware you wouldn't be using them directly anyway.

Just my 2cents worth

The lack of adequate space for a mouse beside the keyboard is the biggest downside.

Unless you get yourself a tiny keyboard, i.e. drop off the numpad, youre going to be forever repositioning your mouse to move the cursor from one side of the screen to the other.

Unless you dont use it as a workstation as they suggest, but just as a "server cupboard", then it probably wont matter.

For my office. I would have 2 computers, my WHS box and a server for VMWare. Monitor, keyboard and switch and firewall as well. I'm just worried about the heat. It looks okay though. Plus it's white and not black whcih the rest of my office furniture is.
