Re: SB6120 and number of Channels Bonded

said by EG:

Or maybe this is Comcast's way of making people pay for a service many may not actually be getting due to deliberate bugs.
I'm not sure how that could be so since the config file is the determining factor for level of service.
I was being semi-sarcastic about it. Many people will pay $$$ for the faster speeds, but don't have the knowledge to realize they aren't getting it. There are probably many people out there with older modems that can't even do 6M (I used to have an RCA that peaked at 5M). There are many modems out there, such as the D-Link DCM-202, that don't support PowerBoost.

Throw in usage caps and bandwidth limiting, and there is little incentive for Comcast to improve their system.

To my knowledge, Comcast does not use the MAC address of any device that is connected to the LAN side of a modem for authentication, or any other basic connectivity function. They use the MAC of the modem only. Can someone with different knowledge please correct me if that is incorrect.

Comcast actually does use the MAC address for basic connectivity. The modem/emta will remember the MAC of whatever was plugged into it when it turns on, and will only supply that MAC with connectivity. All you have to do though is reset the modem/emta with the new device plugged into it. As far as I know this wouldn't have anything to do with the channel bonding issue though.

A modem can obtain block synch with the CMTS even if nothing is connected to its LAN port.

The modem/emta will remember the MAC of whatever was plugged into it when it turns on, and will only supply that MAC with connectivity.

Thanks, but I am already aware of that fact, and I consider this to be fairly common knowledge.. And in that aspect of connectivity functioning, that is correct. I was not including that in my statement in as far as the modem negotiating a basic block synch connection with the CMTS.

All you have to do though is reset the modem/emta with the new device plugged into it.

Actually, the modem can be powercycled/reset with nothing "plugged into it" and a device can then be attached later.

As far as I know this wouldn't have anything to do with the channel bonding issue though.

More than agreed !

I do have the sb6120 as well as the D-link DIR 655 router. I have no issues since install. On the SB6120 as long as the Send & Receive lights are blue then the channels are bonded. If they are Green then they are not.

As near as I can tell, I have now been bonded to three channels for 4 days, at least that's how long my modem has been up, and every time I have checked it has been bonded with three channels at an SNR of 38 db. I hope I do not have to reset the modem again and loose the bonding, which seems to be what was happening before.

Ok, I just got upgraded to ComCast's Ultra today and the tech swapped out my old modem with the SB6120.

I see a lot of talk in this thread about checking SNR, some other values and the bonding of channels... how does one do that.

Right now my Receive and Link leds are blue...

And anyone know where you can find a manual for the SB6120? Moto's broadband web site doesn't even list this model in the support section where you can D/L all the other manuals.

thanks

Go to »192.168.100.1

That will give you the SB6120 stats page.

I'm actually looking for this also, I'll update if I find anything.

Edit- Found some documentation.
