I loaded it up on a spare desktop. So far it looks great.
One issue it thinks my desktop is larger than it is on the right side. I checked my desktop res which is 1680x1050. |

| reply to sansri88 I've been out of the MS loop for over two years... I thought Vista was suppose to be the ultimate OS, and now a new product? Seriously, was Vista just a Beta test that the consumer paid for? From what I have seen the new OS7 isn't that much different, just refined, probably what Vista should have been to begin with.
I might give it a try, but for now I'll stick with Ubuntu and OSX |

| reply to Woody79_00 said by Woody79_00 :what is there to get excited about? its Windows NT 6.1...the same exact build as Vista SP1 Im sure once it goes final they will change the build to NT 6.2 or something...but its nothing more than Vista SP2 with very minor changes...can't believe they are going to charge folks for this. I agree that at the moment at least, it seems like Windows 7 is going to be just Vista SP2 or maybe SP3. Hopefully they will change that. After all this is an early beta still. I've been thinking about the version numbers though and I don't think they will call it NT 6.2. In fact I don't think they will call it NT 6.x at all. I think it will be NT 7.x.
Think about it, the NT kernel started with NT 3.1, which progressed to NT4. Then NT 5.0 came along and was called Windows 2000. Windows XP and it's server variants were called NT 5.1 and 5.2 depending on it's release type (x64 editions for example were 5.2). Vista/Server 2008 is considered NT 6.0/6.1 depending on SP level. Given the next release is Windows 7 it seems logical to me that it will be NT 7.0/7.1.
I know Microsoft doesn't use the NT version except for internal reference but it seems stupid to call something Windows 7 and then have it's version number be something other than 7.x. But then again this IS Microsoft we're talking about here. |

It's good to give it a test run, it's very stable as is right now. I guess I'm more concerned with software compatibility than hardware at this point. I'll be curious to see if you run into any compatibility problems after you've run it a week or so. same driver model as Vista and same every thing else mostly if it works on Vista it should work on 7 and Vista drivers should work fine too |

| reply to sansri88 said by sansri88 :On a fresh install of Windows 7 expect about 30 processes running. Maybe a little more. I have firefox running and I only have 34 processes running. Looks very slimmed down and optimized...and this is Windows 7 Ultimate! Damn, about time the amount of background processes came down. Way too many in Vista if you ask me.
I'm not complaining about Vista though, I have been using Vista since its release and have had relatively no issues with it. Then again, I have good machines to run it on. -- Tom |
