| Speedstream 5200 telnet password/image/"hacking"Does anyone have information on setting a telnet password for use with the Speedstream 5200, Doctor Olds I see your involvement in a lot of threads regarding this topic. The 5200 is black, not black/grey.
I have downloaded the configuration from »192.168.254.254/xcfg and reviewed the user profiles listed, however, none of these work with telnet. I've also tried the telco profile link of »192.168.254.254/pfwizardj.cgi?co···retain=f and I see this username in the configuration, however, it does not work. I've seen the SNAP FTP password utility and read the documentation (I have no Win32 boxes) but my understanding is vague. It seems this is a temporary password.
Is the telnet access defined by the per= (I assume permissions)? Please note that I added the mfadmin account using the pfwizard, this was not present before.
Below is the config snippet, line-breaks added by me, and password obfuscated (mods, no need to change it)
Doctor Olds, not sure if you new, but the firmware/configuration is also accessible by accessing »192.168.254.254/x.img x.def x.cfg x-boot.img
I am in the process of analyzing x.img in a hex editor.
The telnet daemon is listening.

| Seems this covers things well if it's applicable, »SBC DSL FAQ »How can I access the Speedsteam modem's CLI?
Doctor Olds & others, are there any useful telnet debugging commands to get line data or is the CLI mainly for configuration only? I'm looking for something like near_line far_line data which was present on the Alcatel Speedtouch Home/Pro/510 series.

| It's the second one in the picture, 100% black. I did have a black/grey but it was nuked. | |

I was indicating that I have a black 5200, not black/grey, for the purposes of identifying the revision. I understand they come in the black and black/grey flavors, I even owned one in black/grey, and that they are both 5200.

said by buggage : Use ICGabe's utility to telnet into the modem.
Once in, type these commands:
cfg upro#1{usr{un=username cfg upro#1{usr{pw=password cfg upro#1{usr{per=0xFFFFFFFF cfg save do reboot
When the modem reboots, you will be able to telnet/FTP using the username and password you created. You won't need to use the FTP Tool again, unless you reset the modem.
I forgot that the telnet login was the same as that for FTP. Works great after using ICGabe's util. Many thanks.

@windstream.net | Doctor Olds, thanks for your reply. What's odd is that I already have a #1 profile defined. Is the per= line hex for permissions, and 0xFFFFFFFF indicates no restrictions?
Thanks | |

| Hi
Yes the 0XFFFFFFFF grants full permissions to the router for whichever profile it's set for. The best way is to set this per for upro#0 (admin), then you will be able to use the same username and password to log into both the router interface and the FTP/telnet interfaces.
Using upro#1 isn't necessary.
