I use Handbrake and it works great.
I second that. Just ripped Iron Man for the trip up to SF for Macworld.

clubs:		 I just helped a friend on Windows use the free DVDFab app to extract MPEG and then Handbrake for MP4 conversion to put on iPhone/iPod.
