I hear that HD feed will be on in this area later today. We get the SD feed on channel 238 right now.
OK, that confused me there for a minute, you're in New York? It's on 198 here in Dallas, which is the purpose of this thread.

Is there anyone else reading this thread that has TWC and a TiVo? Am I the only one?

Reason I ask is my HDTiVo box is not getting MLBN 198, but that's probably because TiVo doesn't recognize it as an existing channel. I can't tune to a channel that doesn't exist, so I see blank on 198. My TiVo in the bedroom is an older one that uses a TWC Motorola cable box, and that does let me see 198, but that's because it's the Motorola box driving the signal, not the TiVo itself.

Curious to see if I'm the only one affected by this. I realize it's TiVo's problem, but I wonder if anyone else reading this thread has run into this besides me.

Could DFW be using SDV. I think thats why the HD model can't get MLBN. They must be experimenting with SDV and that requires one of those tuning adapters.

I assume its not a thought right now cause of them doing away with expanded basic in later winter/early spring?

No, it is just not technically or financially feasible for TWC in the Dallas market right now, or any time soon.

The market TWC inherited from Comcast (and the various cable providers including AT&T that Comcast inherited) puts major technological upgrades like SDV years, if not longer down the road.

Getting rid of expanded basic and all of the crap foreign language channels will be a good way to free up the space for more channels, but major upgrades beyond the recent $100 million one are not really in the works, or at least not in an actual project plan.

What we really need to hold out for is for them getting newer than the decades old Guide software they're using.

Any of you TW/RR guys have any insight into why I can't see this on my TiVo? I'm starting to get concerned, as someone on the TiVo forums said they do have it in their area. Is 198 active across the board in all TWC/DFW regions? It's not "off" in certain areas, is it?

I realize I'm grasping at straws here, but I _really_ want this channel.

Didn't you say your Motorola STB in your bedroom gets that channel? Doesn't that answer your question about the channel being active in your area?

Try forcing a sync with your TiVo to get the channel to come in. Also, try going to the TiVoCommunity boards for help.

motorola870,
Just want to verify that NorthTexas TWC is no where near SDV. I have HDTivo but still analog cable, haven't switched to digital yet cause wanted to make sure TWC could do the cablecards along with the tuning adapter somewhat competently. Sounds like I don't have to worry about SDV for awhile, is that true?

I spent an hour on the phone with TiVo today, and we went through all the simple stuff I had already replied with. Then they had me try some more advanced stuff. My TiVoHD still isn't picking up the channel. After speaking with their advanced tech people, they said the problem is with TWC, and they filed an official report with TWC over the issue.

Yeah, it is on my Motorola, and I thought it was a TiVo issue myself, hence my calling them. We shall see what happens. I've tried all the stuff I can reset myself short of wiping the entire box out and restarting (something I think most users would be unwilling to do).

198 is not listed on TiVo's website, or on zap2it.com. Tribune Media apparently doesn't have listings for it, which could be the cause of my problem. But I did escalate it at TiVo.

I've posted at the TiVo forums too, but I thought maybe someone here had an idea - figure it couldn't hurt to ask in more than one place.

Update: Hmm. Read this. It appears it might be a TWC issue after all. This implies that there's a more widespread problem.

I have an S3 and TiVoHD and can confirm I receive 198 on the S3 (2xSCards) and on my Samsung DLP w/CableCARD. There is no guide info on TiVo but I can manually tune the channel and see the content. I have not tried yet on my TiVoHD with 1xMCard.

Well, crap. There's an article on bizofbaseball (that I linked to above) that seems to imply that some TiVo people with CableCARDS have issues. I'm even more puzzled about my situation with your post. I can get the channel on my Motorola box, so it can't be an issue with my level of access with TWC.

I know there's no guide info with TiVo, that I accept, but the fact I can't manually select the channel is irritating.

I just checked and MLB is coming in on the TiVoHD too.

BTW, I have Expanded Basic w/Digital Plus Tier, plus the Sports Tier and the HD Tier.

One more thing to try if you haven't already: Call TWC technical support and navigate to the automated "hit" on your cable card(s). This is supposed to reset them to grab the latest info.

Then I wonder what the heck is going on. I doubt it's related to the access level on my account, since the Motorola box can see it in the bedroom. My TiVoHD can't.

I just chatted with a TWC tech for about half an hour, and as I expected, their answer ended up being "That's a TiVo, we don't support it". They constantly wanted to send out a tech, so I asked "Why do you want to send a tech when you guys don't support TiVo anyway", and they had no answer for that, so they're not sending out a tech. I really am bugged by this, since I can't figure out a reason why.

Flex, I have done that three times today already. The tech I chatted with said she had a way to resend channel info that the option on the phone doesn't. None of them worked.

Have you re-started the TiVo?

Do you see anything on the diagnostics screen when you tune to 198?

I've done all the simple stuff (multiple times). Restarted, power down, have TWC "refresh" the unit, redo guided setup for channel lineup.. No change.

As for diagnostics screen.. Which one are you referring to? The only thing I can think of that lets you change to a channel would be the signal strength screen. If that is what you are talking about, I can't even select it. I try going to 198 there, and it just ends up at 200. If it's some other screen, pleas elaborate.

Bummer. The only thing I got left is to record what you want to watch on the bedroom TiVo and transfer it to the other TiVo to watch when that's more convenient. Unfortunately, it won't let you watch live TV that way. Patience may be the only alternative you have left. I wish you luck.

Transferring from the other room is what I've been doing. So far I've done that with the Larsen perfect game, and the two nights of "Hot Stove Live".

But as my wife will tell you, patience is not one of my virtues when there's something out there I want.

pcbrew, I think I found what you're talking about. Found the CableCARD diagnostic screen (buried deep in the setup menus). Anyway, I ran a test on both tuners turning to valid channels, and looked. They both looked fine, then I turned one of them to channel 198, and that one has almost all blank information. Of the various options on this screen, everything has just a dash (aka blank) next to it. The only ones that do not are "CableCARD association" which says None. The Current Tuning Status is "Not Tuned: Wrong Card State", and "RC State" is available. Pending Tune Status is "No tune pending". This is the same kind of stuff I would see on that batch of HD channels that were to be added a month ago before they were actually added.

Edit: I have a question unrelated to this. Channel 96 in Garland appears to have disappeared. This is the one that showed the views of the various traffic cams from around Garland. Has Garland stopped offering that?
