Issues tonight?

I have seen my speeds go from 9.5 mb to 3.5 and under, making my match on Xbox live unplayable with even 4 people.
Anything going on? I called 2 days ago to cancel my AT&T DSL, and am wondering if I should have held off.

Tested now, 2.2 on the download. I am not going to pay $70 a month if it crashes like this. At least DSL was stable at 5.1.

Those speeds are normal for me. If I get over 5 I consider myself lucky. I'm actually looking into getting DSL due to the slow speeds.

I might have to go back. I was lucky to get Elite service from AT&T. The speed was much slower but was rock solid. It seems that things have not changed much at Metrocast.

Do you live in a single family home or a multi-dweller unit?

My intermittent problems were cause by the last few feet of cable, which was really difficult to fix because I live in an apartment building and the coax for the entire building was old and decrepit. But once the entire building was rewired my problems disappeared.

If your problems continue to reappear then schedule a truck roll. It should be a LOT easier to make the cabling to a single family unit right, and that would fall squarely in Metrocast's responsibility. But if it does turn out to be the cable you may have to wait for a contractor to replace the cable.

I know when I moved in they replaced the drop from the pole. The internal wiring is only 3 years old.

I would still schedule someone to come and take a look at it. The work here only should alleviate some peak time problems, but it should not be affecting you that badly.

Will do. I am kicking myself for canceling DSL early.

Give it a chance, these guys have done OK by me, I have faith they'll do OK by you too.

I am a little confused about this statement, did you have some sort of issue with us in the past? I was under the impression that you switched due to cost..

The instability in the lines is what really pushed me. I will always pay for a nice clean line a I used 3rd party voip providers.

The issue is that after exactly one week of service I already have to have a truck roll? I already lost one day for an 8-5 scheduled appointment, now I need to eat up another full day?

So I tried to call them and I am third in line with an etimated wait time of 46 minutes.

I know I am coming across a bit bitchy, but come night time I am getting WORSE speeds than before the speed bump. At least prior to that I was getting 5.5 or so.

I watch it just slow down from around 7 megs and then down to 3.5 to 4 during the test.

Same exact problem here in Gilford, and it's been like this forever. Obviously it's the burst in users getting online at this time and metrocast just falls apart. Paying $60/mo and getting 3M every single night of the week just blows. I wish there was a better option but there just isn't.

We do not serve Gilford? O.o EDIT: unless your gilford is not in CT..

In Connecticut, we do not have alot of problems with contention, so its not a capacity problem, it sounds to me like some sort of signal issue.

I just got off the phone with tech support, and he said that the signals are within range. I was using speedtest.metrocast.net and was anywhere between 1.9 and 4.5 mbs, which to me is totally unacceptable for a 10 mbps connection, shared connection or not.

They scheduled an all day appointment for Tuesday, but even the tech on the phone said "I doubt they will find anything".

I would be more than happy to send you the signals if you wish.

Downstream Value
Frequency 117000000 Hz

Signal To Noise Ratio 42.1 dB

Power Level 14.4 dBmV
The Downstream Power Level reading is a snapshot taken at the time this page was requested. Please Reload/Refresh this Page for a new reading

Upstream Value
Channel ID 1
Frequency 24690000 Hz
Power 31.0 dBmV

Technically they are "within spec" but not what I would ideally like to see.

wow.. 14.4db forward and 31db return?? Thats not right. A modem forward is only rated for -15 to +15, and you are running very close to that top end. Your return should be somewhere between 38 and 50

Do you live at the end of a dead-end street?
