| [connectivity] Speedport acting up
I've had my DSL for years. My old Fujitsu has been getting very picky. First it stopped working through my router, now it will only work with my computer and looses it's connection frequently. I restart it by pulling the phone cord for a couple seconds. Sometimes that needs to be followed by pulling the network cord too. No other laptop or even my Xbox will work with it anymore.
I figured a new modem was in order, so I called Verizon and said I wanted a new one or I was going to Comcast. The next day I get a box from the UPS guy! Inside I find a shiny new GT704WG. It came with all the cables but almost no paperwork. They said I'd need to talk with tech support to get it working.
I figured I'd try just hooking it up and see if it would work... not! It just sits there with the first light green and the DSL light blinking. The 45 minute call to tech did nothing but get me an escalation to somewhere. There was quite a bit lost in the translation. |

| The Fujitsu is an old GTE Frame Relay modem. To use the modem they sent you, they have to migrate your connection off of Frame Relay, and on to an ATM ADSL connection. You will have to talk to tech support, and hope you get someone who realizes what is going on, and switches you to a higher level tech, who can accomplish the change. Newer techs will have no idea what you're talking about when you say Frame Relay, as there are very few people who are still connected to the old network. If it seems you've hit a wall on understanding your problem, ask for a supervisor. Don't deal with the off-shored techs. They are sure not to understand your issue. |

| Thanks! I've been here since the GTE days so that has to be it. That must be why the off shore tech was saying something about a problem with my line (while keeping me busy plugging and unplugging). What's the key word to get connected back 'here' when you get someone you can't even understand every time?
I've been signing up for the $29/month for a year deal, but luckily that had just expired so my Comcast threat had more teeth.
I just got an automated call from them saying they are "still working on it", so maybe that trouble ticket will get back to someone who knows what's up? |

| said by Spectramac :I've been signing up for the $29/month for a year deal That's what I thought. If you have to talk to billing again, tell them you just got switched off Frame Relay, limited to 768/128 speeds by the Frame, and being charged $30/month for it. Ask them to give you the new subscriber pricing, since you were over paying for your speeds, just because you were stuck on Frame.
Test it before you talk to them, to see what speed they connect you at on ATM. You can also look up your provision speed in the modem under trouble shooting, tranceiver stats, using a browser at url 192.168.1.1. If you're not going to use wireless, shut off the wireless while you're in the interface. |

1 edit | Since you're off the frame relay if you want faster speeds, you could call up Billing and request the 1Mbps/384kbps speed. If you're paying the current price for the DSL which is $19.99, the upgrade is ultimately free. If you want info on how things went with me and several other members here, I have a topic I made on this a while ago if you didn't see it.
»Upgrade from 768kbps/128kbps to 1Mbps/386kbps? |
