Re: Issues with Time Warner Cable service in New York

I too miss the search feature that would show you when a particular show was on later in the week. Also had around 6 programs that I deleted months back return to "inbox." Feel like calling Ghost Hunters ;')

Everything else seems ok so far....don't record any shows on 705 till the fall (Dollhouse, 24, Fringe, etc). Hope the audio droputs are fixed by then.

On side note, the Start Over feature. If you start the program over, you can't ff/rew/pause with DVR on parts of show you missed, right?

You can rewind on start over but not FF.

Wow, this is truly awful. Did they think this was an upgrade with loss of half of functionality? Beyond it being a touch slower,

-no manual recording
-review/forward is absolutely awful;never stops at the moment you stop it. (you have to pause and play)
-the color scheme of telling what is being recorded (red) when looking through episodes of shows gone.
-on recordings no indication of how long the show, movie is for. (another extra click)
-doesnt even show the full name of show, episode on recordings.
(can you tell the difference between law and.... vs. law and....)
-reordering shows to kept longer- gone.

who knows what else?

Is anyone as irritated as I am? I don't have much money but I got to go to tivo. This is unacceptable.

July 20 2009

I just bought new HDTV Panasonic TCL37G1. I just got
Time Warner's new HD cable box Samsung SMT-H3050.

The HDMI connections work sporadically. 1st HDMI on TV
hardly works ( only video ). 2nd & 3rd HDMI connections on TV work and sometimes dont work. I hv to turn HDTV on and off & HD cable box on and off several times before I
can get connection to work sound & Video.

The component connection works fine. All the time.
But I want the component connection for my Stereo.

Whats wrong w/ Time Warner???
I had a tech in already. Got a new one coming this week.
I switched the Samsung box, I switched the HDMI cables.

I contacted Panasonic, they told me the HDMI connection works @ version 1.3.
Does Time Warner only work @ version 1.1 ???
Is this a source of the problem ???

Also the Cable TV guide doesnt always work, Im on 1 channel
the guide is on another.
Also not all the HD channels come in, they come in sporadically. Also the audio goes out once hour for 5 - 10 seconds. Video also breaks up alot.

pls advise

Similar troubles in Fayetteville, NC.
New Sony 46" KDL46S5100 HDTV and SA8300 DVR box.

I am seeing the Audio drop sporadically.

So far I have replaced the TV once ( thanks, Best Buy!! ) replaced the SA8300 3 times and replaced the HD cables . Even after that I am still losing Audio. The symptom I am seeing is that audio breaks up and goes away for a few seconds to a few minutes and then seems to come back on it's own. Switching channels seems to help restore sound some times. If I am watching a program from the DVR, the audio can drop also but the drop is not in the same place if I rewind and replay the program. This tells me the source is fine on the DVR and something is going on during the decoding on playback.

AND... starting in the past day or so: "red light" shows a program is recording and it really is not being recorded Another problem recently: when a show is really recording randomly it stops recording.

And now -starting today- video is getting flaky..... blank screen when I power it up for a while then it corrects it self.

This video performance must be embarrassing to the professionals who work at this company! Sounds like the bean counters have trumped the technical and quality staff again.

I signed up for the 2 year "lock in" and am within my 60 days so If they don't get this sorted out fast, I am off to Dish/DirecTV.

TWC did an unrequested firmware update on my Explorer 3250 SD box to, I'm guessing, Mystro, which is very slow in response and is missing the VCR Timers option.

Now I cannot set the box to turn on and tune to a specific channel and then turn off later so that I can record programs on my VCR. Should I go to FIOS or is their some fix for this? Do any of the Mystro firmware boxes have VCR Timer options?

None. Mystro which is really MDN doesn't have timers like that. I think your mislead on it being a firmware. It's just a guide app. It runs on top of an actual OS called PowerTV. Passport was also just a guide program. I think TWC removed that feature so they could sell their DVR.

@rr.com
So, if I want to record on my VCR I have to go to FIOS ?

This is insane !!!

I don't think FIOS has timers either.

Hi, I live in Queens and I have had TWC for @ 4 years now. Original install was with a digital box. In January 2009, I took the plunge and bought a High Def. set and upgraded my service with TWC. I exchanged the box for a HD Box and connected everything myself. The only thing we noticed was that when we changed channels the picture would display, than go off for a second and than redisplay. This past week on Tuesday, 7/21 there was some sort of outage in my area which affected service and the HD box. TWC came out on Friday 7/24. After several hours they finally got a replacement box to work and they did some work on the lines outback of my house. Now we have issues with the picture and sound quality while watching TV. The service guy said that the signal was weak and recommended replacing the wiring inside the house. Do I need to replace the original cable line to resolve this signal issue or is it a problem on TWC's end?

Or you could join everyone else in 2009 & get a DVR. Who uses VCRs in this day & age?

FirmwareFromHell

@rr.com

It is $20 extra each month minimum that I do not have, unless I do not feed my kids lunch which I do not think they will consider a fair trade off.

It is $10 extra for DVR service and $10 extra for each DVR box. Also I cannot tuck the DVR into an envelope like I can with a VHS tape or a DVD-R and take it with me to another room or to my van to keep the kids from fighting on a long trip.

The DVR from the cable company has no burn to DVD option and is too expensive for people on a budget in this tight economy. This Mystro Navigator nonsense is just another way to pick our pockets.

To: Jimdys, who said: "The only thing we noticed was that when we changed channels the picture would display, than go off for a second and than redisplay."

If you set your tv and cable box to the same res like 1080i or 720p. you will not have the 2 second blank screen on channel change. I had the same prob and this corrected it and to think they sent a tech out who just had to access a menu option so sad.
hope this helps.

You can burn to DVD. If you have a DVD recorder using the analog outs then it's possible. Most DVD recorders these days have IR blasters so it's possible.

Hey Hawkeye61- Thanks for the feedback but that issue-the 2 second blank screen change has been resolved when TWC sent out a tech on Friday. The problem I am having is audio and pixel drop out which, according to the TWC tech. is a weak signal. He suggested having the inside cables replaced. My question is if I need to have this done or is there a problem with the Samsung 3050 box or something on TWC's end. I noticed some other comments related to problems with the Samsung 3050 box.

FirmwareFromHell,

Try pressing select and use the Timer Reminder option. Try using that and report us how it works.

Hi,
Yes sounds like a weak signal is causing your problem. The tech can see if you have inside wiring problem by doing a signal check at your first POE (Point of Entry) on the cable feed.
I am not getting pixel problems with the samsung, only issue I find with the samsung is the pausing of the guide as you scroll through it. Seems like the samsung cannot handle the navigator guide to well. need more speed captain!
