anon posted : I have A Samsung 3090 DVR and the same thing happened to me last night when I was watching Glee on channel 705. I think the problem arises when the transmission of the national program is interrupted by a local commercial. There seems to be a software glitch that causes freezing and last night, at least in my case, the channel went dark for about half an hour. I called Customer Service right away and they were clueless. Their only suggestion was to send a "signal" to reboot the box, which of course does not work because the problem results from Navigator inadequacies and is not from a malfunction of my DVR. This has been going on for many months. You would think that by now Time Warner would have sent a software patch to address the issue, but they either don't know what to do or don't care.

anon posted : I just switched to a SMT-H3050 box about two weeks ago. I am not receiving a bunch of the HD channels that I am supposed to get in my El Paquetazo package. Certain HD channels, such as Investigation Discovery HD (723) are coming in without an issue, but most are simply showing me the blue "call customer care" screen. I've called, they have sent two technicians who have both checked the signals, changed things on our cable wires, and did some stuff up on the roof. Each tech has also changed our box. The first tech told us that this is a common issue, especially with El Paquetazo subscribers, and that there is nothing he can do. He spoke with a few different customer care people, and someone at dispatch, and basically said that the people in IT are dumbasses and someone needs to weed them out. The second tech first tried telling me that I was not supposed to get the channels that I am complaining about, but I showed him the online line-up of my package, proving him wrong. Once I told him that I receive the SD version of the channels, he agreed with me anyways.

Does anyone else have this issue, and do any of you have an idea of what I can do about it? I am about to scream if I have to talk to the poor kids at customer care.. they have no idea what they are talking about besides the things the computer prompt is telling them. I know complaining to them does nothing, but they keep insisting that the only thing they can do is to transfer the problem to IT. The people at this mystical IT have clearly done nothing, since everyone says my problem will be fixed in "24-48 hours", and two weeks and many phone calls later, nothing has changed.

Any help or suggestions would be very appreciated.. I really don't know what else to do.

Oh, and I'm in Greenwich Village, if that makes a difference.

anon posted : I had the Scientific Atlantic box which was horrible as far as pixalation and audio dropouts go. Just upgraded to the Samsung box. I hardly call it an up grade. It seems more obvious now that the problem is not with the hardware, but with TWC's system. Still have audio dropouts and pixilation.

jaybittle posted : Hi all -

Recently, I've been having some bad pixelation and audio stuttering on some HD channels of my 8300HDC box.

The same channels are the usual suspects - 703 (TNT), 707 (ABC), 711 (WPIX). When this occurs, the SD version of the channel works perfectly w/o any problems. I'd prefer to not have to reboot the box daily.

My question is as follows, does this sound like a cable box issue or a line quality issue ? Since the problem goes away when I reboot, I'm tempted to think that something is happening in the cable box to cause this, and swapping it out might fix it.

Any way I can test or view diagnostics to rule out a line quality problem ?

cheers,
--jb

anon posted : I completely agree--the Mystro software sucks! I think we should start a petition to demand a discount (say 25% less) on all non-programming fees we pay to Time Warner, i.e. the cable box, the remote, the DVR service, etc. We're getting less capabilities in the "upgrade," so we should pay less accordingly. Here's is just short list of things I cannot stand in the "uprgrade:"

> Close caption does NOT work right. Many texts are lost.
> DVR marks recorded programs for deletion even though there's still plenty of memory left.
> I'm unable to reorder recorded programs in the order I'd like to have them deleted.
> When rewinding, the box jumps forward by a few seconds. This did not happen with the old software, but it does now, which is hugely inconvenient.
> The electronic TV guide only shows 1.5 hour of what's coming up. It used to be at least 2 hours.
> In the TV guide, when movie descriptions are shown, it doesn't show the director name or country of origin anymore. Also, the # of stars for the rating is now listed at the end, which means one would need to scroll to find if a movie is worth watching
> in the TV guide, one cannot find shows by keyword anymore
> The new software does not allow setting a precise start and end time for recording. One has to record the whole show or not at all.
> In the DVR mode, when fast forwarding or rewinding, the display does NOT indicate how many minutes you have moved. The visual gauge is not an adequate guide for where you are in the program.
> Now, a single touch on the A button erases a recorded program. It used to take 2 hits, which is a safer way to confirm deletion.
