[OOL] Really Poor speeds in 11235 & Information about Nuvision

Click for full size
No one else on using pc just me.
Hi,

I have regular OOL and two OV phone lines, one for me and one for my roomie. I live in Brooklyn, near the Boardwalk. Lately, neither one of us can really use the service, other than early morning. It starts slowing down at around noon and continues to drop in bandwidth.

I do not have cable TV and depend on Hula and such places to watch my favorite series. Where as before I could stream HD content without any problems, now even low quality youtube videos fail to keep up and continuously stop to buffer.

The reason for my question is as follows. Lately, "Nuvision" has been available where I live. I understand they also have HSI.

Does anyone here have any direct experience with how their HSI service is in Brooklyn?

Much Obliged,
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!
Attached is my speed as of now.

Elizabeth.

Hi Beth64 See Profile, & long time no speak!

Beth, your speeds are looking like the ones posted by jimbo See Profile from 11223 and many others in the thread »[OOL] Atrocious peak time speeds continue. Nothing fixed in bkly ... I'm sure you didn't miss the thread. It seems that whether OOL splits your node or does anything to address this is a toss-up.

I've read your review and we spoke, so I understand you went through all the steps needed to rule out problems at your premises. That's really all one can do, the rest is up to CV. I'm hanging in there for now, but just barely. With BOOST, my speeds drop to 6-8mbits during prime time.

I've not had direct experience with NuVision however their prices are steep, especially as you don't subscribe to CATV ( ref: »www.nuvisions.tv/internet/index.html )

said by Nuvision :
Internet speeds up to 5Mbps download.

NuVisions Premium Broadband service bundled with video service $29.95 (per unit/per month)

NuVisions Premium Broadband without video service $49.95 (per unit/per month)

Hi David,

WOW! That's a whopper. No, I have no intention of paying 50 dollars a month as I am now.

I received some good offers from Verizon in my bill this month. As I split my internet costs with my room mate, we would pay the 50 dollars if OOL was performing well, but with sub-1 mbit speeds, we're just throwing money out the window.

Thanks for your post. I was hoping someone out there had direct experience with NuVision HSI, but 50 dollars is a bit steep for essentially the same speeds that Verizon charges 29.99 for.

Have a prosperous, healthy 2009!

same problem as beth in 11235 speakeasy.net reports my upload and download speeds in the 2000kbps range which translates to about 300KB a 1/3 of what I would consider normal.

we used to have nuvusions in Warbasse up to 2004(then CV took over) and their inet was pretty mediocre.
something like 2.2mbit down, 256kbit up and they would cap to 640kbit for too much uploads.
their customer service was pretty bad too. whenever i called for any problem there's always the same Russian lady would pick up the phone and talk to me as if she'd be doing me a favor.
their cable tv package was cheaper than CV but at that time it did have less channels. and their 'international' packages were much cheaper than CV's.

they recently once again wired our buildings with CAT6 to offer competitive service to CV. but i don't know what their current package offer..other than what dave pasted above.

Thanks MxxCon See Profile.

We're going to try our luck with Verizon especially with an existing POTS line.

Thanks for everyone's help. I'm tired of not being able to stream a YouTube video.

OOL seems to have went in reverse. What ever happened to stable, fast service... Shame. I enjoyed the net when it was good.
