2 edits | [speed/latency] Speed Questions - Transceiver Stats included
I left a 7 Mbs cable connection for Verizon due to a crazy 50GB Up/Down Cap. I was provisioned at 1.5Mbs but I was curious if the stats below look like they could support 3Mbs. I believe I am about 8500-9000 ft from the CO. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Might even squeak by for 7.1/768.

2 edits | Billing will make the changes to the speeds. Ask them to move your provisioning to the full 3Mbps speed (it's free). Once it's done, visit the Verizon Direct forum on this site and ask them for FastPath, which will cut the latency quite a bit to the first hop (expect roughly 6-7ms at optimum conditions). After, post up your new stats and we can go from there. You are running ADSL2+ on your line so that's helping it. But if anything, your attenuation is low enough that the DSL may be able to run at 7.1Mbps with FastPath, given the margins are high enough. |

You can't make all the people happy all of the time. But it should be common sense to shoot for the majority. |

| reply to sennico I tried that tool earlier but it doesnt work for me. I called customer service around 5PM yesterday and they told me they could upgrade it to 3Mbit with no problem, just a 24-48 hr timeframe. I am eagerly awaiting the increase, they have 18 hrs left.. |

| reply to sennico Here are my updated stats. I have two questions. The first is that my speed seems slightly off. I believe I remember seeing 3360 as a norm for 3Mbps service. Does this matter? And 2nd would it benefit me to switch to fastpath? Thanks again

The switch from G.DMT to ADSL2+ mode produces a slightly different sync number. There is no significant difference between 3360 > 3355 or 864 > 863. You've got an excellent piece of copper. I would have it switched to Fast Path. It will drop your downstream margin a couple of db. |

2 edits | reply to sennico To add onto JohnA's post as well, should you ever be interested you can also go even to 7.1Mbps with the margin still in the 30's and keep the FastPath.
But you do have some great copper there. Your margin was barely even touched on the downstream! The upstream sunk quite a bit but it's perfectly fine where it's at. That's expected to happen with ADSL. |
