How to check voice mail from iPhone........

Holding down the "1" button automatically dialed it on other phones but doesn't seem to work on the iPhone. How do I manually check it ?

Call one of the voicemail backdoors or call your own phone number, ignore the call, and hit * once the message comes on.

If you're asking how to check your visual voicemail, you can do this by clicking the "Phone" icon on the bottom(or dock) of your iphone. Once in "Phone" click the Voicemail button on the bottom of your screen. This screen is for your voicemails. Delete them, listen to them, save them, etc.
(See chakey's link)

BUT if you're asking how to check your voicemail remotely(calling from another phone besides your iPhone). All you have to do is just call your iphone number and then when the voicemail answers, press the * key and enter your password. You will then get your voicemail menu options.

For someone that doesn't have visual voicemail with AT&T, is there anyway to set that Voicemail icon to automatically dial your own number? (jailbroken app perhaps?) It is quite annoying how I have to type in my own phone number or scroll through the contact list to find myself just to check my own voicemail...

Edit: Ah, nevermind. The wonder's of Google...

" 1. You need to first get your carrier's voicemail number.
2. Click on your iPhone's phone button.
3. Then click on the Keypad tab.
4. You need to then add the following code: *5005*86*xxx#. Here xxx would be your voicemail number.
5. After entering the code you tap call.
6. This results in the code being set.
7. Thats all, tap now on the voicemail button and it should automatically call your usual voicemail service." »www.iphonehacks.com/2007/09/voic···ack.html

I simply replaced "xxx" with my own cell phone number and now the voicemail button calls my regular VM properly

strange, I did this and nothing happened. Apparently it is for unlocked phones where the voice mail icon didn't work. BUT, when I hold down the "1" key now and it dials my voice mail. This wouldn't work before.
