| IE7/XP Flaky Favicons
I have one Dell Latitude D820 (XP SP3, IE7) that is annoying me with favicons.
If you launch IE for the first time after booting, or after closing and letting any site sessions timeout/expire, no favicons will appear. However, if you close the browser and then relaunch it, they then appear normally...until the next time you launch after timing out. Oh, if you've let the browser sit idle for 20 minutes or so, icons for other sites may or may not appear when you open them after that.
This behavior is not occurring on any of my Vista boxes, or even other XP units. Tried deleting everything in the cache and cookies, even deleted those temp IE folders so they'd get recreated. It affects all profiles on the machine regardless of whether it's an admin or ordinary user. None of the suggestions I've seen about this apply or work.
There's no operational issue...it's just annoying.
Ideas (other than wiping the box)? -- There is no giant fur-bearing trout. |

| reply to DC DSL Favicons are stored in the Temporary Internet Files folder, so check the settings on that box to make sure the TIF folder isn't being set to empty on exit, or some other similar policy...
