Re: Mooola

No kidding. Is there no end what these suckers will pay to play with their expensive toy? Must be nice to be made of money.

Currently tethering a 'normal' 3G smartphone with no extra charges beyond the $15 no-limits data plan using unmodified AT&T-provided equipment. No muss, no fuss, no insanity.

Re: Mooola

Yes, but that "tethering" is blatantly against the TOS. It's clearly stated that tethering/modems are not allowed with ANY of the MEdiaNet plans, or even the PDA plans for that matter. Only the plans that explicitly mention tethering actually allow it. And btw, it's pretty easy for AT&T to catch you tethering. They just have to check the user agent strings and ports on any given connection. Also, if you use over 1 or 2 gigs on a Medianet plan meant for a crummy phone with a WAP browser, you sure as hell will be flagged down on the billing system. This is standard with pretty much any provider. On CDMA carriers, it's even easier to catch, unless you hack your phone and disable NAI.
So IMHO right now, AT&T is taking advantage of the stalemate that exists in the market right now. Per se, Verizon's tethering is $60, as mentioned. Sprint is also 60 if you want to be able to get Rev. A speeds (few phones actually have Rev A), or want to make/recieve calls while online. And AT&T's DataConnect plans are $60 (tethering/datacard). All have a 5 gig limit. Not a very competitive market, innit? (NOTE: I'm just comparing the LEGAL ways to tether. If you want to tether on the phone-only plans, by all means, be my guest. But as ninjaturtle said, don't complain if you get caught and your account gets terminated.

That's my $.02,
