Officially canceled my service with Speakeasy this week. Business Fios service has been rock solid for a month. I was surprised, yet not surprised, that Speakeasy did not even ask why I was canceling or try to retain in any way at all. I actually said to the rep that I was surprised that that they didn't ask or try. His response was "I see what plan and service you have. I assume you got a better deal and we offer nothing to compete." All I could say was WOW. Cancellation was quick. I wish SE luck.

I wish I had speakeasy again miss the QOS and the static IP's. Charter will be deploying 50mb \ 5mb for around 140 without direct bandwidth limits. I wish speakeasy was able to resell charter....

All the best with FiOS. I'm eagerly awaiting the day when our apartment building in NYC is wired. (Verizon is to do an engineering inspection of the building soon.) When it's available, I'll be dropping SE as well as my Time Warner cable TV service. In the meantime, I'm giving seriuous thought to switching to Verizon DSL as a cost savings. In this economy, any reduction in regular monthly expenses is a good idea and I don't really need a static IP anymore, which was the only real reason I ever went with SE.

Speakeasy is being regulated out of business. Cable/Fiber operators aren't required to open access to their lines. If so, I'd go with SE over FiOS. As is, I'm jumping to Verizon - Speakeasy can't compete with the FiOS speed/price combo. I'd only stick with them if they cut my rate to unreasonably low numbers, but I can't expect them to survive at half the cost of their competitors.

SE, it's been great. Hope to see you soon on an open network!

I must have been a lucky one - in 7+ years - only one real issue - a billing screwup when I first got on after a former ISP got the boot from Covad. Nary a problem of any kind since and no screw ups on their end.

My bet is that they are going after the business customers and trying to lose residential by not being hugely responsive or lowering their prices.

I still hope to get another PC running to use as a server and make family pictures on it via secure FTP and SE is about the only ones that will allow server on a residential package.

But hen I already pretty much made the above points already which means you will likely ignore this as well.

Even with business customers - we're with them for 5+ years now - they are less and less flexible and even when they have screwed up something... not sure how long I will tolerate this idiocy anymore - instead of gaining customers they are losing them constantly, thanks to the utter stupidity of their business/finance people.

Initially they had their CPE setup to convert the fiber to coax, which then ran into their router. I called them and had them switch it to Ethernet, which we then ran directly to the customer's router. I haven't had to contact them since.

Have you had many problems or outages with Fios for Business. I have about 10 clients on Fios for Business going back as fara s 3 years now and I can honestly say I don't think I have ever had any issues with connectivity at all. My few dealing with Fios support have generally been to setup PTR records which have gone smoothly, now that I have the correct procedures to do it.

Speakeasy has nothing to compete with FIOS, at least when speed and cost are considered. They are sort of stuck, as they don't own any infrastructure other than a Broadcom switch on which they host VoIP customers. They tried and failed to do something in Seattle with WiMAX and they just launched some limited Ethernet service, but it's expensive. All their DSL stuff piggybacks on Covad, which is of course running on ILEC copper. Their business VoIP service is pretty good and they've loosened the connectivity requirements (initially you had to have their T1 to get VoIP from them): Now you can, in some cases, bring your own connectivity.

You will not get the same level of support with either Verizon or Comcast. I know first-hand for both. And while $100 for 20/5 sounds great, also consider the cost to the business when the Internet connection is down or malfunctioning.

I just wanted to post in here for anyone who may be in the same thought process as myself. I have been with SE now for almost 6 years. I have been, for the most part, happy with SE service & performance but frustrated with their pricing and available plan options. As a service business, I have continued 2 pay the price for SE as reliability and features are key.

Today I called in looking to see what options I might have as a long time customer. With both Fios for Business & Comcast business offers coming in every other day, I figured it was time to see what SE could do. I explained my concerns for the price I currently pay ($110 for 6.0/768) and the speeds I receive in comparison to available offers from both Fios & Comcast as well as other DSL providers. Their 1st "solution" was to offer me a $10 discount if I give up my grandfathered plan which includes 4 static ips, teamspeak server, shell access and other features, to which I balked. Then it was suggested I upgrade to ADSL2, for full price, which would cause me to lose all of my grandfathered features from my original plan. No offer of discounts or any retention of current features. When I asked why I should choose this 15/1 for 189.95 over Fios 20/5 99.99, they had no answer. I was than told it doesn't matter because ADSL2 is not available to me. This seemed a bit strange as it WAS available to me when it 1st came out. After a little more discussion it became very clear to me that SE really had no desire to try and retain me as a customer. They offered nothing in the way of incentive to stay with them and offer nothing to compete with the enhanced offerings from other companies.

I have now placed an order for Fios for Business w/5 ip's. My scheduled install is Thursday. It is a shame that Speakeasy has fallen so far from being such a strong player in the market for small business customers. I know they now offer some higher end Ethernet services but it really does seem that they have abandoned their initial market. If anyone from Speakeasy still reads these post and can offer any other solutions or explanations to the direction of the company, I am sure there are still many here that would like to know.
