Vchat20 : No different than when XP first started out really. My cousin still has a Dell Dimension from years back that was XP Home preloaded with only 128MB ram which is around the equivalent of 512MB for Vista. Runs, but just barely. And don't attempt to run anything but Wordpad or any other smallish app. And my old Gateway came with 256MB with xp home.

I don't know why people keep forgetting that XP was just as bad during it's infancy as Vista (well, Vista might be worse, but not these huge margins that most are claiming).

And I don't know where you're reading into the idea of a Govt. entity of mandating people use such a relatively new OS such as Vista. And I'd find it even harder to believe someone such as the pentagon would be involved with that considering the extremely strict security guidelines they have (Not saying Vista isn't secure, it's the uncertainty involved in comparison to say Win2k or XP which have been out long enough to a point they can locked down tighter than fort knox if so desired.).
--
I swear, some people should have pace-makers installed to free up the resources. Breathing and heart beat taxes their whole system, all of their brain cells wasted on life support.-two bit brains, and the second bit is wasted on parity! ~head_spaz

rcdailey : I may be crazy, but I have always believed that every Microsoft OS upgrade has been, in part, to help sell new hardware along with the new OS. I think that's one reason that they have these marketing arrangements with the hardware vendors. Of course, I could be wrong. It could all be just some sort of amazing coincidence.

RayW : I wonder how much they made off of the US Gov? We have been buying vista machines (I think mine is a year and half old now) for well over a year now and putting XPPro on them, now the pentagon or some other idiot group has mandated we all go to vista soonest. We have a lot of legacy software that is broken under the vista rules, so we have to buy new stuff for that, as well as pay for new licenses on all the machines that had vista to begin with (so the local admin group says, but they hate vista too, so it may be bias).

Your tax dollars at work, don't need Obama to spend more money that has not yet been printed yet, the current structure is doing just fine :(.
--
I am not lost, I find myself every time.
