| reply to djrobx Re: Competition to TW?
orange or white with black letterin. I've been noticing lately AT&T is phasing in stickers, that actualy have their logo on it, vs AT&T printed on it. in addition to instead of like the orange ones, with several states "one call" numbers on it, just say now 811. |

| reply to Don Slade quote: I don't have much hope it will reach my neighborhood. I live in an area full of $250k+ homes, more than half over $400k, and DSL is not available, has not since before I moved here in 2001. Close to 200+ homes in a 10 - 12 block area and the only options are TW or satellite.
Sounds like your area ought to be high up on AT&T's deployment list. DSL eligibility doesn't matter. They deploy new equipment that services all homes within about 3000' of each box. If you're curious about whether it's coming to your area or not, check around your neighborhood for new beige "fridges" with orange stickers with numbers on them. They will have power meters attached to them at some point also. They pop up near existing (smaller) B-boxes. -- AT&T U-Hearse Your funeral. Delivered.

| reply to Don Slade I dumped TW over a year ago because I got tired of fighting with them over bad reception. They would come out and fix it only to have it go out again in a week. Went with Direct TV and have never looked back. Have always used ATT for internet and with the "Pro" am satisfied. I will certainly look at this new option soon |

join:2001-01-26 Valencia, CA | reply to Don Slade I still get weekly junk mail from AT&T offering the Uverse bundles, however, its bogus here in SoCal, as the Uverse Voice isn't available, making people still use POTS (filled with fees, and requiring extra cost for things like Canada calling). |

| Really? I wonder where they will start. I don't have much hope it will reach my neighborhood. I live in an area full of $250k+ homes, more than half over $400k, and DSL is not available, has not since before I moved here in 2001. Close to 200+ homes in a 10 - 12 block area and the only options are TW or satellite. And I'm in the middle of a fully developed area, not out in the fringes where all the new construction is. I get a monthly email from SBC/AT&T telling me sorry, but no DSL for you.
Maybe that is why TW has been going around lately performing badly needed maintenance on their cables and amps? These last few weeks I have seen the SNR on my node improve to the highest levels ever after years of complaining to TW about slow speeds, bad analog cable TV signal, horrible digital cable reception and unreliable VOIP performance.
I sure hope that this new competition at least serves to keep TW's prices in check. I'll have to keep my eye out for any AT&T info about this deployment. |
