| [Thunderbird] Move profile folder from xp to linux
I know this is probably an out of the ordinary request, but I would like some help if this is possible.
I am setting linux up on a laptop & want to have all my old mail & extensions from my windows laptop on this linux laptop.
I have installed Thunderbird. I have just copied the profile from xp to linux, but none of my extensions seem to work & the some of the mail folders are not reading the summary file.
I have tried changing paths in prefs.js, deleting all the extensions.??? files in the profile folder, etc but still can't get extensions to work or install new extensions.
Any ideas? What have I overlooked? -- Live carefully today! Tonight you may answer for your actions. |

| Start with a brand new profile on your linux box then move just the Mail folder and extensions folder. Let everything else stay there. You'll have to reconfig everything on your new machine but it should do the trick. I did it once before. -- "If it ain't broke don't fix it." |

| That got most of it working. I wanted to transfer saved passwords also, but although the old profile does have saved passwords, it does not have a signons.txt file for me to transfer.
Maybe this is a sign it is time for me to start using a real password manager. -- Live carefully today! Tonight you may answer for your actions. |

| said by MiNdErAsR :For Firefox you could try FEBE and/or Foxmarks extensions. Are there any of those type extensions that will let you use your own webserver for storage instead of their's?
I have looked at these extensions several times, but always back away when they start talking about uploading my stuff to their server. I don't really want my bookmarks, passwords, extensions, etc on someone else's server on the internet.
I did try the bookmark sync extension once but was unable to get it to reliably upload the bookmarks to my website space, so I quit using it. -- Live carefully today! Tonight you may answer for your actions. |
