Re: I hate comcast throttling.

How do you know for a fact that you are being "throttled" ?

Could you have a basic connectivity issue ?

It could be google issue of clogging the network traffic bandwidth of youtube.com that's no big deal. Feel free to find right ISP but fiber optical ISP is highly recommended that is high end internet connection.

This may not turn out to be a *last mile* issue at all..

If it isn't, fiber for the last mile won't make any difference for them.

During normal times I get the full 6Mbps on downloads but during peak times it goes down to 200KB. It would seam that certain areas are way over subscribed.

EG has a good idea here. Why not wait to see if the OP can be helped?

If others of you are having issues, please start your own topic and give the requested info as well.

Re: Problems watching Youtube clips - I hate comcast throttling.

I don't think its comcast as my friend has DSL and he is having the same issues. I think its youtube's slow download servers that are causing this...

There was a big thread about this 'throttling' a few months ago. The general consensus is that it's an issue with YouTube being overloaded at times.

Comcast does not "throttle" YouTube or Hulu

I can tell you we're definitely *not* throttling YouTube or Hulu.

Youtube is only overloaded with comcast, not Verizon DSL, question - why?

Dunno, but start by posting a traceroute from CC and VZ to YouTube. It may also matter where in the CC or VZ network you are, as the route paths to YouTube likely differ within each network.

Youtube (as well as all major geographically dispersed content) controls their global load balancing via source IP address. Since they are in control of where the content is served from, it is very possible that the server you are using is different than someone else at Comcast or the one via VZ.

I'd recommend the basic network troubleshooting and if the issue appears outside of Comcast, contact YouTube support.

Perhaps you should change your title as it is highly inaccurate.

I doubt its comcast this time. You can get a program called VDownloader to download the clips locally and watch.Whether Comcast or my friends dsl,I can see the speed fluctuate and slow down on download. This behavior is similar for streaming.
