Does anyone have any feedback on the Vecima Networks VistaMAX Base Station?
I'm interested in deploying this equipment.. |

3 edits | I received the 1 ap/5 cpe starter kit today and I have it running on the bench right now.
I spent a couple hours this morning pulling my hair out b/c it wasn't working. Come to find out that if the GPS is enabled, and it can't get a GPS signal, it won't accept any clients..
By the time I got off the phone with Vecima support it was almost time for me to head home. I'll play around with it more tomorrow. Maybe even get it on a tower if the weather cooperates.
I tested with 3.5mhz channels and it gets a solid 6mbit with one client. I think there is a setting limiting it at 6 mbit though b/c I got the same 6mbit when using 7mhz channels.
Ping times are consistent at 35ms and stay less than 50ms while doing a 6 mbit speed test.
The base station weighs a ton. It's at least 25lbs. The clients are rebranded tranzeo wimax clients. They look the same as a tranzeo tr-sl2-15f.
If anyone wants to login and poke around web interface of the base station please IM me.

| I haven't had a chance to put them in the air yet.. Weather has been crappy and I'm doing a Mikrotik training this week so I haven't had much time to deal with it..
Our tower climbers pull double duty as installers and with all of the cancels and rescheduling due to weather lately they've been busy on the nice days playing catchup.
I'm going to try and get one of the crews to get it done on Thursday weather permitting..

| Hi Gerald,
We received our 3.65 today but haven't been able to get it to associate to any subscribers. GPS is off. Purchased new, but it bothers me that it already had three configured subscribers and some wisp's DNS IPs in it. We are not using the management tool. Hopefully Vecima can help us tomorrow. I'd love to poke around and see your settings. I am rzeff at nikola dot com. Thanks, - Robert |

| reply to Gerard780 Finally got the subscribers to connect. Had to put an attenuator at the antenna for our lab testing. I cannot yet get more than 2.7 mbps. We looked at the demodulated RF output and see that the AP never broadcasts more than 10%. Latency is about 50-60mS. High compared to our Trango gear (5mS), but maybe that has to do with QOS, etc.
I'll be anxious to hear about other results.
Thanks, -Robert |

| Apparently the default settings limit all cpe's to 3 megs max. I had to call them and they walked me through the steps to increase that limit.
They really try to push you to buy their NMS. Looking back I wish I would have gone for the bigger starter kit with the NMS..
I still haven't been able to get it on a tower. We had two days of beautiful weather and Mr Murphy had to go and ruin them for us.. Now we're having an ice storm.. I guess he's not done yet..
Maybe we'll get it on a tower before spring gets here.. I'm dying to test it out..

| reply to kf6ytc We finally managed to get it on the tower today. I haven't had a chance to test it yet anywhere but my house which is about 1.3 miles away through a line of trees.
I'm using the Omni on the tower and I'm getting a -70 signal. I'm running in 16QAM 3/4 right now and I'm getting 8megs down and 2 megs up using a 7mhz channel. I have the down/up ratio at 70/30, 5ms frames, and 1/16 cyclic. GPS is turned off right now.
If my wife lets me I'll go switch a few customers over to it tomorrow and do some better testing..

| It's still working great, no complaints or interference issues. We're taking it down in the next couple weeks to replace it with Canopy though.
There wasn't anything wrong with the Vecima. We just decided to standardize on Canopy since it is an established, well known and supported product with plenty of frequency options to choose from. Locking myself into 25mhz with the 3.65 just didn't make sense with the number of customers we have. I just don't trust the GPS timing to work miracles like that. We've decided to use the 3.65 band for point to point instead of ptmp..
Anyone want to buy a slightly used Vecima Vistamax base station? PM me..
