| On and Off internet...
Since yesterday the net has been very unreliable and I've even installed a program to monitor the net access and found out that even when multiple files from multiple servers load at once, there is a 20-30 seconds of pause, then 20-30 seconds of activity.
I've added a screenshot (DU Meter and downloading program) showing the status, I'm not sure if it's ok to post a picture or not so I added just a link for now.
The PC is a WinXP connected to a 5100b trough a DLink 604 router. I've restarted pc, modem, router and same thing.
Haven't installed any programs or something out of the ordinary just that I've used NetFlix lately to stream some movies, does ATT limit access in case I went over some limit by any chance?

| Welcome to the club, seems we are slowly gathering members. Over in the AT&T Southeast forum I have had a few threads on similar issues now since November. The current one is »The Endless Dropped Download problems
If you scroll down toward the bottom you will see a post from myself that has 3 links in it to screenshots showing my perfectly well connected DSL exhibiting the same issue you're having. Here is the best one »www.pcsites.com/Clipboard-1a.jpg the other two show me transferring from two geographically different servers at once and give a false impression. The bottom line is this. If I ramp up my pipe to 3.0 or above and try to transfer anything over 4 or 5 meg this is what happens now. Packet traces show heavy lost and repeated packets. I've joked about it recently but I am starting to wonder if AT&T is throttling some heavy traffic.
Good luck, and youre not alone. -- Fed Up With Stupidity?

| Thanks, rahlquist! I've contacted ATT and after they've done a line test they 'saw' some errors on the line. It's not fixed yet but they're probably working on it.
Funny thing is that even though downloading starts and stops, uploading is going strong at all times, it doesn't drop when downloading drops.
I'm trying to make some sense on what's going on, but don't have any leads... if uploading is working 100% how can one differentiate the errors from, let's say, a 'download limit'? I mean if there is an error on the line, shouldn't it affect the upload link as well? |
