@shawcable.net

how long until we get 15 mbps down?

does anyone know how long it took for the 7.5mb - 10mb upgrade to propagate to other provinces/cities?

When they did boost it did they do it all at once or was it one area for testing and then others all at once?

If you don't know, Regina has 15mbps down for the extreme I package.

big deal, i am content with 10mbps, although 15 would be better obviously, the real upgrade for me would be upload speed increases. At least in my opinnion.

Yeah I'd have to say I don't really care about having the speed cap increased from 10-15 Mbps for me, it'd be better if they just increased the quality of the service I do have first... I live in a bit of a congested area so my down speeds from from 10 mbps to around 5-6 at 9 pm at night.

There's no point in looking forward to a 15 Mbps connection speed if it drops back down to 5-6 at night at my house

Wow! 15Mbps? I would be happy if i could get over 1Mbps at night with my Extreme Package.

i have had my share of 1 - 2 month stability/speed issues but they tend to always resolve them and give me credit for the problematic months.

I can't wait until 15 mpbs comes, if it comes. Going to really make that astraweb account sing

They said my area is heavily congested, and have know about it for awhile There is still no service notice for a split.

They have credited me and I am still waiting to hear from them for a update on when this will be resolved.

A retentions agent implied the upgrade (5 to 7.5 and 10 to 15Mbps) would come around June.

I agree, speed is a secondary consideration after reliability -especially given a certain level already. Though I do like having faster services available, 10Mbps is currently acceptable and I would rather have a price reduction and/or higher usage limit than a 50% increase in speed.

In lieu of competitor changes, the Shaw upgrade seems a necessity just to maintain current pricing (independent of other services).

Shaw 10/15Mbps $51 ($40 for six months)
Shaw 5/7.5Mbps $41 ($30 for six months)
Telus 6Mbps $36 ($31 for twelve months)

So what would that be with the boost on? temporary 20mbit for extreme then?

droddlove, was there any mention of upload speed increases?

anonbanana, though Shaw claims PowerBoost provides burst speeds up to 5Mbps higher, their examples imply more and in my experience with 10Mbps service it reaches 25Mbps with multiple connections.

fgdfg, alas no, the Shaw agent did not mention upload speed and I did not think to ask.

I wonder if Nitro's speed is going to be increased, or if its price will drop. Assuming there is no corresponding increase in price, I think increasing Extreme-I's speed to 15Mbps will make Nitro even less viable for most users.

Nitro isn't meant to be viable, it's meant to be able to say, "Hey, look! We have the fastest residential internet speed in Canada!"

it's all marketing. And no, no change is planned for Nitro.

And no, no change in upstream.

Fastest in all the markets it's available in. Remember, that's for -residential- service. Professional/business class service is different.

I guess I just got the increase in Kelowna. My net went down for a few seconds justa couple minutes ago and now i'm getting stable 15Mb/s on my extreme account.

Understood, but the point is Shaw doesn't have to compete against Videotron, so why bother? Videotron can have the fastest internet in Canada but it means little to those of us who can't get Videotron where we live.

It sounds obvious to say but you compete against your competitors, not against everyone in every market.

I was just clearing up the fastest speed in Canada issue.

If you want to say "Fastest Internet in Shaw's Territory" be my guest.

Looks like Edmonton has been upgraded to 15mbps... either that or something is seriously wrong with PowerBoost.
