Re: dsl upgrading

Thanks for your response joako. I ordered the xtreme 6.0 and I will use the netopia 3347NWG-006 router. I will let you know how its goes. Robert

Yes, you can get 6mbps of speed! ADSL2+ (G.992.5) can actually support up to 24mbps -- if AT&T were willing to offer those speeds.

Last time I tried they did send a new modem.

I am trying it again. Ordered DSL lite, connected a SpeedTouch Home and will be upgrading to 3.0mbps, as soon as the original order is "completed." I should get a free 2wire gateway out of it.

I believe even the Westel 2200 supports ADSL2+ (but I'm not 100% sure), the 3347NWG certainly does. Although AT&T does not offer the faster speeds that ADSL2+ is capable of, they do use the technology and I have seen cases where the ADSL modem can not obtain full speed, but using an ADSL2+ modem does. You can check the "sync rate" (see here: »AT&T Southeast Forum FAQ ) and if you are not syncing at the full rate, try a modem you know is ADSL2+ capable.

I'v had dsl from bellsouth (now at&t) for many years. I am thinking of upgrading to either xtreme 3.0 mbps or xtreme 6.0 mbps.
Do you think I would really get alot more speed over 3mbps with a phone line? Right now I have the ultra and I am getting about 1504kbs download and 253kbs upload.

Second question. If I upgrade will I get a new modem? I currently have the westell 2200 model and a linksys wrt54g wireless router. I also have a netopia 3347NWG router I could use. Do you think I need to purchase their modem/wireless router combo, or do you think mine will work just fine? Thanks
