@verizon.net | RF Remote
Hi, We are thinking of getting FIOS TV, Do there remotes have RF capability? I'd like to hide the unit in the closet & would need a RF remote to operate the unit.... Thanx

@verizon.net | Is one available as an option from FIOS? Or do I need to add this on my own. |

| reply to uox I believe people have had success with this:

I THINK (not used it), it allows you to use the remote that comes form Vz. |

| I've used this item with some success. Since it replaces one of the AAA or AA batteries you can use it with any remote. PRO - works most of the time....CON - It doesn't always get the signal from my Harmony remote. I would suggest you also investigate dedicated Universal RF remotes. Either way, you need the IR emitters. |

Steven Be sure that there is enough ventilation in the closet to get rid of the heat the STB generates. This is particularly important with the DVR since it has a hard drive in it and can get fairly warm. If it gets too hot, it can screw up or fail. So, don't pile any clothing on it... -- Never raise your hands to your kids. It leaves your groin unprotected. -- Red Buttons |

| reply to uox I currently use the Next generation in my basement to control the box upstairs on my basement TV (No need to pay for two boxes) the thing works like a charm. In fact the rechargable battery has been in there for almost 7 months now and I have yet to have to switch it out. Works like a charm with no issues. |

| reply to uox I currently use one of the Niles IR repeaters at home for control of all A/V equipment located in a closet. They are a bit spendy, but I have found that you get what you pay for when dealing with IR repeater systems.

| reply to uox I have been very happy with a One For All universal remote URC-9910 that comes with an RF "base station". I have had one for several years and it has codes that match the Motorola DVR. I used it with DirecTivo for a few, and now with the Verizon DVR. It is capable of learning commands not part of it's normal command sets. When I bought it, it was less than 40 bucks, it is often more, but worth it. It may be a bit hard to find. Amazon has no stock, but other on-line retailers may. Well worth it IMO, if you can find it for $50.
