| [Xtreme] DSL modem not detecting VPI/VCI
I have problem with my modem not detecting AT&T VPI/VCI. The modem I'm using is a Broadxent 8012-v1. I've been using this modem for over 2 years with no issues and this morning I lost authentication. I called AT&T and they do not see a problem. I asked if they could ATM ping my modem but the rep didn't know what I was referring to.
The log notes in my modem show attempts at connecting to the ATM network but it wont connect. I've tried 2 Broadxent modems, a Motorola 2210, and a Netopia 2247, neither connects to the PVC/VCI.

Can anyone help me with this, or what should I ask the AT&T reps to do if I need to call again? |

well, the modem auto detects the settings. There's an option for telnet but I don't know the password. |

The AT&T reps are able to authenticate my username and password on the network. |

| Your modem is doing its part to auto detect the vpi/vci The log you posted shows that your modem is testing each of its atm pvc's the problem is on the bellsouth side of the loop Getting bellsouth to ping the modem or check to see if you have a PPPoE session or trying to start a PPPoE session may prompt some action |

| I think the port is messed up as well; it's just that the rep I spoke with didn't know what I was referring to when I asked to ATM ping my modem. I also asked the rep if she sees my authentication attempts but she didn't know how to check it. I asked for a port reset, but no dice, she didn't know how. After 2 hours on the phone, they're sending me a new modem. Although I told them that an AT&T modem (the Motorola 2210) wouldn't authenticate.
I'm going to try again today, hopefully I can get a tech who knows ATM troubleshooting. |

Wayne -- If you cannot fix it with a buttset and some beanies you ain't a technician.

I thought worked for COVAD and would rather slash your wrist then use BellSouth? Wayne Yes I work for Covad, but Covad DSL is not offered where I live. My wife works for AT&T so we get the 6.0 service for a discounted price. |
