useless...

They should stop adding these useless extra-cost "features" and focus on the important missing aspects like storage expansion and a 16x9 HD guide so I can see 2.5hrs of guide data instead of 90mins.

Yes.. "useless" features. The whole premise of the DVR is to be able to set and record a program. So, enhancing the functionality of the DVR is a useless feature. The 16x9 guide isn't as big of a issue, but I will say the storage could be.

The DVR was never intended to be a library storage container, so personally, I see no value in adding space on a rented DVR. Expanded storage on Tivo, something you own, already exists. Possibly that is where you should be looking.

I really don't understand why your trying to re-define the DVR. A Tivo is a DVR and the Fios 7216 is a DVR, just one is a lot better than the other. Period.

Also how can you say you see no "value" in adding space in the DVR? Are you kidding me, really? Whatever dude.

Lastly, the DVR remote scheduling "feature" is worthless to me. Seriously, how many times can someone find themselves using this vs. using the regular interface? I think Verizon has their priorities screwed up if you ask me.

Why not adding space? Because.. it's not necessary. The VCR has how much space? A DVD recorder has how much space?

Thank you!

The DVR with a 160GB drive is plenty.. the DVR is a time shifter.. to be honest, they should not be allowed to call them a Digital Video Recorder.. they should be called time shifters... seriously. They are NOT designed to hold large libraries. I have a 160GB box and it holds hours and hours of stuff.. the idea is to watch them and move on.

HERE is the catch.. they NEED to change their focus on them and allow the user to REMOVE the content from the DVR.

Simply adding more space? for what? to hold the content there for ever and ever and ever? makes no sense. You watch it, you delete it and move on. They need to find a way to let you catalog your content off the device.. THAT is where I'd find value.

They tied to debunk the VCR years ago.. it failed. They tried to stop the Laser Disk, DVD, and the DVD recorder.. ALL failed!

Now.. the DVR is shoving the VCR to the side.. this is removing, for many, the ability to record as much as they want for later and put it on a MEDIA for storage other than the device.

The video operators need to give VALUE by ganging up and forcing the hands of the studios and simple make the DVR capable of offloading the content. THAT is where *I* find value.

Otherwise.. bring back the VCR.

And.. how many times can someone find themselves using the feature? .. I dunno.. I've only called home a few times saying "Hey,, honey, I'm going to be late.. record X show for me please!" .. and many times no one is home. The DVR is designed for the busy person or the person who's schedule doesn't fit the programmer's desires which is why it's known as TIME SHIFTING. (watching something at another time) Therefore, I'd tend to believe that many people are going to watch something OUTSIDE of the normal realm. It's easy to NOT be there to program something so yea.. it's got a purpose. Redesigning a guide for design purpose doesn't add value.. it just changes the way you see it.

Sorry.. we have to disagree becuase you're right.. it gives YOU no use.. a big mistake when talking about the user base at large.. It's not always about just you.. a common mistake when thinking for the mass.
