My mistake. All the commercials here have been saying that cable hooked up TVs are safe but over-the-air TVs will go black unless you buy a converter box. Man, if I'm getting confused by the whole deal, what does Joe Average think?
Yes, the average Joe is getting confused. Several of my friends were asking if the cutover on Feb 17 would affect analog channels they receive over their cable systems. Many are confusing the concurrent activity many cable companies are going thru of moving analog stations to digital tiers with the switch of OTA analog to digital.

what they should do is keep the analog going for 30 days ALERTING people that this is exclusively on digital.
That is already in the plan.

what's the projected date now? i think there's been ample warning.

i still say let's do it on the 17th.

what they should do is keep the analog going for 30 days ALERTING people that this is exclusively on digital.

down here, i can get better reception with digital.

in some areas of the country, you may need an upgrade to a higher gain antenna.

It has to do with stopping over-the-air signals and requiring your TV be hooked up to a cable/satellite source for television reception.
NO. It is switching from analog to digital for over the air TV - over the air signals are NOT being stopped. And no one is being forced to switch to cable or satellite TV.

SD as in Standard Definition? The DTV transition has nothing to do with SD vs HD. It has to do with stopping over-the-air signals and requiring your TV be hooked up to a cable/satellite source for television reception. That reception can and will include SD feeds as well as HD feeds. Switching all feeds to HD just isn't possible or appropriate now. (Not all shows are in HD and not everyone has an HD set.)

At this point, only stupidity and procrastination are reasons to not be ready. I've been running digital for 9 months now. I don't see how anyone could miss the switch unless they don't watch TV. There's a scrolling message about it running through the middle of Florida vs Oklahoma right now...

Man that would seriously suck we really need to move away from SD, and this would be the final punch in it's dying corpse.
