| reply to nu2this Nonsense. Those sites are all scams. Don't even think of following Backspace's suggestion.
nu2this, you're very likely screwed, but your best/only best is to go through the tedious telephone system linked at the bottom of the page Gbcue posted. Even getting through to the automated phone system can be an ordeal.
Then you'll get an appointment to show up at a physical passport office, where you'll have to wait most of the day. Good luck. (But there's basically no chance you'll get it done in a week.)

| said by B :But there's basically no chance you'll get it done in a week. Bullshit. I got mine in 2 days. Got it through a local travel agency who walked it through. She had people in Houston to stand in line to present it to the D.O.S. Stupid me thought it was in a box when I hadn't used it in years.
Cost about $140 for the expedite, plus the standard fees and pictures.
So, nu2this if you are near Miami, you can make an appointment with the passport people. If not, start calling around to some travel agencies and see who they use. |

It can be expensive-- with enough money to throw at the situation, it can be done in a business day or two. I don't know about those particular expediting service sites, I didn't even click on them, but there are legitimate passport expediting services, and they're definitely worth considering if you must have a passport on very short notice. | reply to nu2this Wow, then perhaps I stand corrected!
I know that certainly wasn't the case about a year ago. Perhaps it depends on what part of the country you're in... I guess if your local passport offices have ample capacity it's doable. Good to hear.

I guess if your local passport offices have ample capacity it's doable. Good to hear. -- B No, it's not local passport offices doing this. If you're using local passport offices, I think you're right, I think two weeks is considered a minimum on an expedited passport and that's with extra fees and a wing and a prayer.
But legitimate pro passport expediters have offices in Washington and New York and have connections and use express delivery services. If you've got a week's lead time, you can get a passport for an extra $150-200 or so. If you need it within a day, it's possible, but more expensive, obviously.
The other thing is when you need expedited service, everything has to be right, obviously. Forget a signature, use the wrong form, make the check out incorrectly, whatever, and you may miss your plane, because if your application gets bounced by a bureaucrat, there may not be a timely opportunity to make it right. That's another reason to consider using a legitimate and good pro service rather than trying to do it yourself, because they know exactly what's needed and where people go wrong. |

| Fascinating. Thanks for the info. I somehow thought it was illegal/impossible to have someone hold your place in line. I guess not! (I know they were checking IDs when I went.)

Yes, but it's usually more expensive to reroute yourself in and out of DC than it is to use a pro service. |

2 edits | reply to nu2this It is nice to know that you're not total road kill because of the wheels of the bureaucracy if you need to travel on short notice and don't have a passport. It will take extra money, and going outside the normal channels, and some careful attention, and a reasonable measure of luck, but it can be done. |

2 edits | reply to nu2this To sum up, you can either make an appointment with and go in person to a passport office, or you can pay an agency to do it for you. I've actually used CIBT.com to get visas, though not the passport itself. (The Russian consulates in the US only deal with agencies if applying for a visa by mail.)
For a 2-3 day passport renewal, CIBT adds $232 (including return 1 day shipping) on top of the normal passport fees. You include a permission slip with your passport renewal that gives them the authority to submit and pick up your passport. The business about "checking ids in line" was for people that would snap up the scarce reservations, then resell them. The expediters have their own arrangements for submitting documents.
Since you're in Hallendale, you might try making an appointment with the Miami passport office, and go to an agency if you can't get one. |

| reply to nu2this yup... i called and made an appointment (sameday, today) to get my passport done at miami office.
i paid 135 dollars, gave them my old passport that is expired, 2 passport pics, proof of travel to destination, and BAM! They gave me a receipt and told me to pick it up in the lobby at the front office Tuesday after 10 am. -- Why are you so surprised to see sinners in church? | reply to nu2this I got a free trip to Mexico the last week of Feb. My wife and I are going and we were worried about the passport and I called on Monday to make an appointment. They told me that going to the post office and submitting it would get me the passport in 2-3 weeks. They would only make an appointment if I was less than 2 weeks out. With my travel date being 5 weeks out I was fine.
Be aware though, that they keep your Birth Certificate to submit with the application. That was a bit of a surprise.
The fees were $75 for the State Department and $25 for processing. Then an additional $15 to have the Post Office take the pics for us. It was $12.99 + Tax at the pharmacy so that was OK.
So my "Free" Cruise for 2 to Mexico is now up to $580 before I even leave. $350 for the plane ticket and $230 for the passports. -- "The Habeas Corpus secures every man here, alien or citizen, against everything which is not law, whatever shape it may assume." --Thomas Jefferson to A.
