| Could I get some opinions on Velcom
I'm planning to cancel my Bell Sympatico and go with either Velcom or Teksavvy. Velcom sounds appealing because of the unlimited bandwidth for the same price. Can someone tell me how reliable their service is and if it ever goes down a lot? I download quite a bit, so I thought the Velcom plan would be better for me. However, reading what little I could find on these forums, Velcom hasn't had a lot of recent comments. Teksavvy, on the other hand, has. Any comments to help me decide would be appreciated. |

| Unlimited traffic sounds good if everything goes right. I am left without dsl for last 3 weeks. Thanks to open wifi connections, I am still online.
Here is summary of what has been going on for last three weeks. Order goes through, payment received, activation date set, Not activated, I contact velcom, they issue ticket and few days later I get another activation date. Not activated again. Complain again, they issue ticket again and I am sure there will be a new activation date.
Since they are a third party provider, they don't have control over the lines. When we as customers call Rogers or Bell, they at least can take care of the situation since they own the network and have got their own technicians.
Just have a backup plan if something goes wrong. I haven't heard many complaints about them on DSLR so may be my case is special one. Get 100% assurances from velcom before you cancel your current provider. |

| reply to Dexter5 I have been with velcom for a couple of years and have seen some changes. Velcom like teksavvy rely on bell for service. In the beginning I found velcom to be a lot more proactive. Techs were around the forums more often and would help to resolve problems with bell. Teksavvy appear to be genuinely concerned with quality of service where as velcom less so. I have had recent issues and found that velcom support was less concerned about the quality of my connection and seemed to think that I should settle for less than I was paying for. I had to repeatedly insist that I would not settle for less before my issue was resolved. My next change will be to teksavvy. |

@rogers.com | reply to Dexter5 I used Teksavvy in 2007. There were absolutely no issues from ordering to cancelling. Rogers offered me a really good deal on homephone and Internet so I had to cancel it.

| reply to Dexter5 I have 4 connections with them. No complaints.
I recommended it to my boss where it lives in Concord, I use one at home in North York, and two are downtown at work for backup off the T1.
They are very stable, down time is near non-existent.
The times I've called support its slightly better then Bell. They do know what your talking about and seem to be very helpful if you ask them to do certain things they will. Sometimes they can be hard to hear and they seem to be somewhat nervous all the time lol!
The sales guy I dealt with was very professional, was a British dude, he got my stuff setup quickly and emailed it to me.
Speeds are DECENT. For unlimited usage though I can't complain. They offer a 5 profile and I get around 3.8-4.5ish, on all my links.
That's about it.
Don't use the emails or web space so I can't comment on that however I hear you have to contact sales to get your web space set up. They do email you your account settings for mail.
What I generally find with these guys is they are marketed more towards people who acutally know what they want, they offer you the service with very little to no markup and just give you the settings and off you go, not a lot of hand holding which I think it's great for me at least. Just give me my service and let me deal with it. |

| reply to Dexter5 I've been with Velcom for a little over a year. Things have been pretty solid. Now and then I'll lose my connection but very rarely and then I usually just have to disconnect and reset my modem. Very rarely does this not work but it usually does work the next day.
I had 3web before and that was a total nightmare. I was without dsl for 2 months while at the same time trying to get through to cancel my 3web contract.
Velcom is bliss by comparison. |

| One thing which strikes me as odd. They seem to frequently change routings using American lines. For instance I'm posting from Toronto from my velcom account yet you'll notice its showing up as speakeasy.net next to my name.
I just did a traceroute to velcomdsl.cca and the first hop was to Global Crossing in Phoenix, Arizona!!!
