Re: If the weathermen can be believed...

Oh... I know it's nothing they have much control over. I'm not blaming any of them. It just like a conspiracy that no matter how long I stall in cleaning the drive, they show up within 10 minutes of the time I put the snowblower away. It doesn't matter if it's early in the morning, midday, late afternoon or evening... it never fails that they do their thing right after I'm done! The one thing that I do quite regularly is clean along the curb, in the street, to: 1) show them where the curb really is (saves on mailboxes) and 2)reduce the amount of snow the plow blade can push into the bottom of my drive. I do about 60-70' on either side of my drive.

In their defense, too... our little burg does a pretty good job of getting the streets cleaned after a snowfall. They get the intersections and curves cleaned and salted/cindered first, and then go back and scrape the streets. They repeat until the streets are pretty-much bare, too.

as much as i hate to do this, its not those snowplow drivers fault. what are they supposed to do? stop and plow everyone out? yea,its a real pain, but wouldnt it be much worse if they didnt plow at all? its just one of those things you have to deal with when you live in snow country.
probably drives the plow driver nuts too(unless he is one of the real creepy kind).

We got a couple more inches overnight. I cleaned that off the first thing this morning. Actually had a little sunshine today, so the drives have stayed pretty clear most of the day. Ditto the feeling that it's a good thing the snow is relatively light and "fluffy". No good for snowball fights and snowmen, but a darn sight easier to remove from the drives. The local forecast is for another couple of inches overnight again, but it's supposed to be spotty... may not get anything.

We had negative snow fall. There was a little bit of snow on the ground when the weekend started. Now there isn't any at all.

The snow had stopped late last night. Left about 2-1/2".
Son will probably come by again to do the driveway.
When my husband was still healthy, he would use the snowblower. When his health got worse, son would come over and use the snowblower, etc. Son had purchased a used truck w/plow from a guy in PA about 1 yr after his Dad had died (died - '06), and has used it to plow my drive, nextdoor neighbor's, old lady across the street, then he goes to his in-law's house. Such a good son! When the weather is 'normal' , he and his oldest son (now age 14)come over and mow the lawn. When it is really high/thick...he puts his riding mower in the back of same truck and just does his thing!

We got a good amount of snow here, 10" officially.
Good thing it is light fluffy snow.
No more snow but it is going to stay cold so it looks like this snow is going to stay around for a while.

...plus the city plow came by...that's 10" of snow in my driveway! All nice and tight!
That's when I break out the Cub... with the 40" snowblower attachment on it. With the chains, extra weight and a full 16 hp. those "log jams" left by the plows at the end of the drive are no problem. I just let it creep through the pile and it clears that stuff with no sweat. I also try to go along the curb, in the street, to let the plow operators know exactly where the curb is and it cuts down on the size of the pile they leave at the end of the drive. It never seems to fail... no matter how long I stall before cleaning off the drive, as soon as I'm done, the plow goes by and leaves its "deposit" right at the end. It's just a small annoyance for me now. It used to be a real PITA when I had just a shovel. Fortunately, those days are long gone for me now.

Well, I actually measured the snow in my drive and there was 8" this morning, and it's still falling. I've cleaned the drive twice today, and I'm guessing it'll take one more time after it finally quits snowing. There was about 2" on the drive the second time I did it. I'm trying to stay a little ahead of it if I can. According to the local radar, it should be easing off pretty soon.

Don't believe them. Our east central Iowa forecast went from 1 inch for Friday night to 3 inches for Friday night. We got 8.

Stayed north of us over night - Sidney has a lot of freezing rain but southward we got rain. Probably will freeze tonight and that will be a mess if there is any standing water.

It's 22 right now here. The snow is falling - looks like the same when rain falls...not in flakes either.
The city snow plows have been out this morning on the 'main' streets in our area. Not on the side streets at all.
Neighbor on my right has one of those F-150 trucks...snow is covering almost to the top of his tires.
Hopefully my son will come with his truck (plow attached) and do my driveway...although I don't even plan on going out today.
When he comes, I betcha the damned city snowplows will come along my side street (my garage faces that street) and will plow whatever is on the street into my driveway - which they do even if they see somebody shoveling/snowblowing at the same time. They really don't care at all. Said same neighbor last winter was blowing the snow from his driveway...the city plow just went and plowed 8" of snow right where he (neighbor) had finished blowing. Neighbor gave the driver the 'bird'...driver gave it right back to neighbor!
Gawd, I hate this stuff! Prefer rain.

... it seems that this weekend, we're finally going to get a bona fide snowstorm around here. All the local weather prognosticators are calling for 5-10" accumulating by tomorrow night. We're getting a very fine dusting right now, but the forecast is for an inch/hr during the day, tomorrow. I guess I better head off for the gas station... need to fill the cans for the tractor and the small snow-blower.

edit: It must be true 'cuz everybody in town is trying to buy gas tonight!!! Three gas stations and every one was full. Not long lines, but every pump was in use!
