How he had to drop out of school at the time to do anything for $ to pay bills to food. After the crash, that generation saved, saved, saved. My Grandfather bought his first new car in 1976 at the age of 68.
A few years before he died, he was literally amazed that everyone around him had some sort of debt; not debt for a house, but mainly credit card debt. He didn't understand it.
I don't think it's the media. I think 2009 isn't going to be that hot of a year.
