| host problem?
Hi, I have problems with updating my antivir and adaware software. On this forum I found a possible solution in checking your hostfile because it might be hijacked. I did check it as suggested. I seems like it's ok but there is one line that i don't understand. Can someone explain to me if it's ok or a hijack? # Copyright (c) 1993-2006 Microsoft Corp. # # This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows. # # This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each # entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should # be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name. # The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one # space. # # Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual # lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol. # # For example: # # 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server # 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host
127.0.0.1 localhost ::1 localhost
this line ::1 local host that's where my question is about. |

@chello.nl | Hi, Thanks for your answer. It goes a bit too technical for me, but it seems like it's safe and not a dangerous thing. If not please tell me. |

4 edits | reply to matthijs matthijs, apparently the problem is not with your HOSTS file.. norwegian gave you (and me) a good answer, that the "::1 localhost" line is for "IPV6", which is new, in "windows vista".. (the default HOSTS file for "win xp" does not include the same "::1 localhost" line)..
i think i remember when, in the past, people had problems with updating "ad-aware", and that the problem was caused by their ISP, due to the way that their ISP had things setup..
i think you should post about this in the lavasoft forum, and mention which ISP you are using.. maybe, then, lavasoft will look in to the issue..
in the meantime (in case you didn't already know), you can manually update the ad-aware and antivir malware-definition databases:
»www.lavasoft.com/support/securit···er/blog/
»www.avira.com/en/support/kbdetails.php?id=95
»forum.avira.com/wbb/index.php?pa···d8397925
on the "lavasoft" page that i posted the link to, look at the top-right of the page, for where you can download the malware-definition databases.. |
