POLL Web Browsers - 2009 Members Choice

Encarta defines a web browser as "a program used for displaying and viewing pages on the World Wide Web". A browser can also be used to access information provided by Web servers in private networks or content in file systems.

The browser field is constantly evolving...players come and go (anyone still remember\use Netscape?) as new ones continue to enter the fray and try to knock the market share numbers down from the big kid on the block.

This poll attempts to give visitors an idea of what DSLR members are using on a daily basis. This year, we've attempted to narrow down the field and give you the opportunity to select some vendors by version. We've also included choices from past polls but if yours still isn't listed then please select Other and post your product by name.

So, the question of the day is...

What is your preferred web browser?
Mozilla Firefox 3.x 252 (56.2%)
Microsoft IE 7x 70 (15.6%)
Opera 9.x 41 (9.1%)
Microsoft IE 6.x 22 (4.9%)
Microsoft IE 8 (Beta) 15 (3.3%)
Mozilla Firefox 2.x 14 (3.1%)
Google Chrome 10 (2.2%)
Other 5 (1.1%)
Apple Safari 3.x 5 (1.1%)
Maxthon 4 (0.8%)
K-Meleon 4 (0.8%)
Sea Monkery 3 (0.6%)
Apple Safari 4.x 1 (0.2%)
Camino 1 (0.2%)
Opera 8.x 1 (0.2%)
448 participants.

SeaMonkey v 1.1.14,Opera 9.63, Firefox v 3.0.5, K-Meleon and IE7 are my choices, but since the poll is not multi-choice my main choice would be Opera 9.63 with Seamonkey being used more than ever.

Currently using Firefox 3.0.5, but also IE7 occasionally, but I couldn't vote for both, so I voted for Firefox.

Definitely a firefox fan here.

I experiment with Opera 9.x and with konqueror on linux, and I am occasionally forced to use IE7 on Windows. But I always find I prefer firefox.

Benefits of firefox:

•useful extensions
•middle click on a bookmark opens it in a new tab (that does not work in Opera).
•the ability to have multiple profiles, fine tuned for different uses - or just to retain different sets of cookie based credentials.

Of the alternatives I tried, konqueror-4.0.4 was worst. It claims to be able to import bookmarks, but that does not seem to work. I finished up exporting bookmarks from firefox to an html file, viewing that file in konqueror, then adding selected bookmarks from that file while in konqueror. That's painful and tedious. I did try directly importing the file in konqueror. That works fine until I look at bookmarks and discover that the imported bookmarks are nowhere to be found.

Thanks for the poll, MSeng!

I'm wondering what the winning percentage for Fx3 (my choice) will be this year!

I voted for Firefox 3. But it would be nice if you could pick more than one browser since I use Opera 9.0 almost as much.

Firefox 3.x and Opera 9.x,
with Firefox getting used more often out of the two.

Voted Firefox.

I have used Firefox since the pre-release version (0.8 or so) and now use Firefox 3.0.

I Like the clean interface and the useful add-ons and extensions that extends the functionality of this browser.

I'd use chrome if it had Adblock Plus. Until any browser gets Adblock Plus, Firefox 3.x is where I'm staying.

I can't stand Ads. I can't.
