Upload usage

My upload usage seems to be higher than expected.

I received this from BELL yesterday.

As you requested, we are sending this notification to inform you that you have now reached 50% of your monthly Internet usage allowance1.

Usage included in your monthly plan 60.00GB
Your usage so far this month1 30.02GB
Number of days remaining this month 48 days

For more details on this month's usage or to increase your monthy usage allowance, please visit My Internet Usage.

A couple of thing caught my eye:
1. there is 48 more days left in this month?
2. The upload usage is higher than the download. How can I tell what is causing the higher than expected upload usage?

So how does Bell calculate bandwith usage if they can't even get the number of days in a month right?

The Bell support person said to just ignore the error and not worry about it!

I'm not inclined to agree with that approach!

If you use torrenting and don't erase the files from the p2p client that's probably why you have the upload higher than the down.

Don't have BitTorrent, don't personally agree with the idea.

If you don't use P2P, then something is awry with the bandwidth tracker, unless you've been uploading a lot of data (via FTP, for example). Or maybe you have an open wireless and someone else is using your connection?

Anyway, I just don't trust that tracker.

So you should ignore that there are 45 days in a week, but not ignore that your B/W could be wrong?

hmmm k.

But it makes sense to me. This is Bell.

Hey Bluenose37, I was wondering if you got an explanation from the Direct forum for your strange usage readings.

No answer other than not to worry, I won't be billed for any extra usage.

This wasn't what I had asked Bell, I wanted to know how I could track down the cause of the higher than expected traffic.

Good luck! Bell can't answer questions like that unless your problem were to be forwarded to the right people, and support certainly won't do that! Many only barely seem to know who their supervisor is let alone who a question like that would go to!
