 1 edit | For the most part that's true but I once tried the netgear DG834GT and I sync at higher speeds over the 2246N. The modem chipset does effect line condition stats as well.
This was one of the reasons I asked does the 3300 use higher performing processors over the 2200. |

Assuming you are connecting in ADSL2 mode rather then ADSL newer protocol allows finer grain control over low level modem overhead. It is common to see small differences in sync rate.
If prior modem or DSLAM line card only supported ADSL and now both ends support ADSL2 connection will use new spec. It provides slightly better performance over long circuits.
Unless margin is low sync rate should not be affected by modem. Sync rate is set at DSLAM based on service plan ordered.
Router processing power does come into play with high speed connections as NAT requires a lot of housekeeping and large NAT table memory is important for P2P users.

I just looked up the CPU on both the 2200 and the 3300 and they're the same. I guess the "High Performance" Netopia/Motorola mention is more to do with software.
I originally tried netgear because my Dslam use broadcom equip which the netgear has a broadcom chipset. I read its good to have matching equip with your ISP. Netopia/Motorola uses Texas Instruments. But their new 7000 series uses broadcom, its VDSL though.

It does somehow check that it is compatible with your hardware, because I did try a firmware that was not an ntaXXX.bin and it would not take it.
I had reported some bug on nta760r4.bin but netopia never bother putting out a new version on their website. |

One thing I notice is the netgear broadcom modem I tested had upstream SNR margin at 16db. This tells me the broadcom chipset handles line noise better.
But the 3347 does have broadcom switch integrated with Texas Instruments chipset..»wiki.openwrt.org/Hardware/Netopia Perhaps this is the reason for the higher upstream you posted, tranle. I don't believe the 2246N-VGx has the integrated broadcom switch. |

 davidgGood Bye My FriendPremium,MVM join:2002-06-15 none | reply to GoBG i had to put my 3547 back online. for some reason teh 3347 keeps locking up every night and requires a HARD restart to correct. i ain't got time to play with it right now, so i am just using the 3547 until i get time to see what the problem is. the 3547 is getting slightly slower thruput due to teh reduced SNR, but i can deal with it for now. -- Lack of Preparation on YOUR Part does NOT Constitute an Emergency on Mine! |

 2 edits | The 3347 I have is fine so far... but I hate seeing the word "interleave" on my stats, even though I don't believe i'm on it do to my first hop stats.
You won't believe what I went through to get fastpath from my small telco. It took over a year and a call to the ceo.
The 3347 does have better upstream SNR numbers than my old 2246. Decision Decisions Decisions
If only I could flash the 3347 with a Vgx firmware.. I think that would solve it. The bellsouth firmware what's causing this I bet. |
