 | My DVR will be targeted for ads I will never see Targeted TV ads sounds like it is a good deal for the advertisers and for the cable networks(who would get more money for targeted ads). But since more and more people watch TV thru the filter of DVRs and their fast forward capabilities, who will see these ads?
Will this result, eventually, in the hardware DVRs fast forward capability being disabled in the software? And will the software based network DVR(being tested at TWC for example) prohibit fast forwarding thru commercials? -- My BLOG .. .. Internet News .. .. My Web Page |

| thats true. Maybe they will prevent you from skipping through channels.
Or imagine you record the show to your DVR and it records commercial free. Then every so often in the show Comcast stops the show and throws in a few commercials, like Hulu.
I'm sure they'll realize quickly that people with DVR's are skipping through these special ads and do something about it. |

Re: My DVR will be targeted for ads I will never see they'd have to do hdcp only for EVERYTHING to force commercials to be watched. with stuff like the HD-PVR (»www.hauppauge.com/site/products/···pvr.html, record 1080i from component input) around, it's gonna be hard to force people to watch crap they don't want to see. this also doesn't consider capturing from the s-video or composite. these methods may (well, are) a pain in the ass, they provide a possible method to 'skip' commercials if they start implementing anti-commercial skipping. |

If you've been following the trend, the plan will be to NOT ALLOW users to skip the ads. IE forced to watch them or else you can't watch the show. This is as much about control as anything.

Most likely result, barring regulation or legal interference (Read: Consumer rights lawsuits.) -- "Fascism should more properly be called corporatism because it is the merger of state and corporate power." -- Benito Mussolini
