1 edit | I was told business class might get bandwidth limits Hi, I just got a heads up that business class comcast customers might have limits/caps placed on them in the future. If anyone finds out anything about this, please keep us all updated.

I have checked my account online every day since Jan. 1st and can not find it. I can't find any thing on the website about it and calling them is well, you know how that goes sometimes. I'm really curious to see how close it is to my Netmeter.

Hopefully there will be some sort of announcement. I'm sure it won't be long after live that we hear about it here. I guess I will just keep waiting. Thanks.

This is completely false, wherever you heard it.

This is completely false, wherever you heard it. They better not because that was not in the contract that I signed. If they implement a cap they better give me the option to get out of the contract or they will hear about it. I understand that I shouldn't use my connection to bring down the node (read: 2TB+ a month), but they will be hurting a lot of high $$ customers by doing that.
Ethrem, I understand that they really don't want to implement a cap, and I feel this is a good thing. I am paying for a premium internet connection, and I expect to be able to use it like a premium internet connection. I also feel that they will not implement a cap, so I'm not worried.

They call them and offer them a business services contract... If they say no, they disconnect them... Business services won't be capped. That would just be stupid.

How much were you downloading? Approx 500 GB. Okay but did you get multiple calls or just a straight shot, you're off the service? In my years of sitting in front of the computer all day taking calls, I've only ever seen one account that had been booted for HSI abuse... They made the house completely unserviceable for HSI for a year. Blew me away when I saw it.
When I looked into the account though, they received three warnings before they got the boot. Two letters and one phone call.

| | | | | | | | | 1 edit | Re: Bandwidth Limits/Congestion Management - All discussion here Fist call w/ a warning and vague terms to "drastically alter my download habits". Could not get an answer to what would be an acceptable level.
Switched to Earthlink and was assured that there are no download limits whatsoever. Asked repeatedly about Comcast policies and described the problem, was assured there was nothing to worry about. Third month account suddenly terminated. Called Earthlink, they went through their troubleshooting procedures for 2 hrs and then was told to call Comcast. Suddenly Comcast policies did apply. Called Comcast "abuse" dept. was told that I downloaded 480 GB and was banned for a year (or more).
Never got any letter or anything in writing. Claimed they sent emails to my comcast.net email, but I could not verify that since my account was terminated. Probably they did, but I never used that account. In general they do not deviate from the policy. It is just an abusive policy in my opinion, but that of course is open to debate depending on where you stand or maybe who your employer is.

Well, it could also be that they don't offer business services out in your area. We are very selective with where we will install business-class service because we want to make sure we can actually provide the consistent level of service that the service contracts demand. Could also be market policy. Either way, I'm sorry that happened to you. I would go absolutely nuts without my Comcast...

Let me get this straight. You got canned from Comcast for bandwidth "abuse" and then switched to Earthlink. And then Earthlink canned you because of what you did at Comcast previously?
Unless Comcast and Earthlink are affiliated somehow, I find this story VERY hard to believe. It would be like me getting canned from Comcast and then calling AT&T for DSL service and having them tell me "sorry, you were an abuser at Comcast, we can't help you."

"4.0 Earthlink Pwd. by Comcast What are the advertised speeds? Earthlink subscribers inherit the Comcast speeds which are typically 6000/384.
This may vary based on your location. What about my Comcast email? After you initiate the switch from Comcast to EarthLink, your Comcast email will be nuked and all messages will be deleted and access shut off to the account. Where is EL/Comcast available? Check out this EarthLink page for up to date availability status."

No. Earthlink in my area is just a Comcast reseller really, although they present themselves as an "alternative". It is really Comcast all around, although Earthlink reps would say in my opinion whatever the customer wants to hear in order to make a sale. -- Obama '08. That's a sad story.. yah I got the boot from comcast.. 3-4 years ago.. and I went ADSL.. never had any lies out of them about bandwdith and they were faster then comcast at the time.. (offering more)
Now I'm back.. mainly cause I have special deal.. and I don't run bandwidth counters (don't have to worry) but one of the few I do have.. shows I've pulled just about 1 tb of data.. (counter can't be older than 3 months tops..)

It makes you wonder how many customers Comcast has lost just because they were not offered business class internet? If someone gets "the call", I think they should offer them 3 choices. 1, cut your usage to less than 250GB/month and if you get another flag within 12 months then you must choose option 2 or 3. 2, Upgrade your account to a business class account, then have them sign up for which class they choose. 3, Disconnect your Comcast HSI service and go to a different provider. If they just offer it, I think they could start making more money on heavy users. -- Duct tape is like The Force it has a light side and a dark side, and it binds the Universe together
